Blue Mountains
View from one of the lookout points Happy 2007 folks, this year has flown by aint it. I'm about ready to head out of Sydney now having spent a few weeks here. This friday we're off up the coast towards Cairns with a paddy called Rob. He's doing the same route as us so it makes sense to split the cost of the car rental........a 3.6litre V6 Mitsubishi. Not playing games here I tell thi. It works out at around 400 sheets each which aint too bad for 7 weeks rental. We'll have a lot more freedom this way as well so I'm looking forward to it.
For new years, we headed for Circular Quay which is near the harbour and opera house. We managed to get in by squeezing through the fence and doing the old tensing the shoulder trick to knock a few people of the way. To say it was barmy would be an understatement. They reckon over a million people were there so getting around was pratically impossible. Still we managed to get a decent spot for when the fireworks kicked off at midnight. They had a lot to live up to, the Coach and Horses 97 show in Ardsley was a belter.

One slip and I've snuffed it Thankfully they didn't disappoint although I reckon I've seen better in my time. At about 3am, everyone was pilling onto the ferry back to Manly, we somehow managed to get onboard. I'm suprised the thing didn't sink as it was beginning to look like an Indian railway train! Unfortunately I didn't get any photo's of the night cos none of the pictures came out right. I've got a couple of videos though as memories.
We managed to get some ashes tickets for the final test by bagging some tickets from a tout outside the ground. We got in just as Harmison and Anderson were at the crease so didn't catch that much cricket, apart from their opening batmen knocking the runs they needed for the win. It was Warne, McGrath and Langers last test match so it's now a part of cricket history and I was there......smoothly does it. The barmy army were in full voice putting the aussies to shame which to be honest doesn't take much as they're like Arsenal fans, they didn't call Highbury the library for nothing. We hung around for the presentation of the trophy then hit a bar for a much needed Burger

I went to watch Sydney FC play New Zealand Knights the other day in the Hyundai A League. The Kiwis had a few players from the English Leagues in the their squad like Scotty Gemmil, Dean Gordon and Neil Emblem. They also had Noah Hickey in their side whose name I can remember ages ago from a clip on Soccer AM. He dribbled past 2 or 3 defenders before rounding the keeper, open goal at his mercy. The daft sod starting pratting around with ball, doing step overs and taking the piss. I think he was just about to get on the floor and slot it in with his head when a big defender mowed straight through him and put it out for a corner. I'm gonna have to route that one out on YouTube cos it's piss funny. The Kiwis who are proping up the league, ended up springing a suprise and scraped 1-0 win although Sydney should have put 4 or 5 past them. I reckon the standard is around somewhere between the lower championship to mid league 1. Sydney v Barnsley would be a decent game, tarn just shading it on a good day.
The barmy army were in the away end supporting New Zealand and went ballistic when they scored. All you could hear was "Kiwi Army, Kiwi Army, Kiwi Army...." Class!
Last Saturday we headed for the Blue Mountains which are about 100km west of Sydney. The area is full of Eucalyptus trees that give off a blue haze which is where the name comes from. It took us a while to get going, mainly cos the 2 drivers were about as much use as an inflatable dartboard. After pissing around for a while picking people up, we were finally on our way out into the wild. Our tour consisted of a few bush walks and a visit to an sacred aboriginie site which was a rockface on top of a huge cliff. I was hoping for an action shot near the edge but thought better of when the wind picked up. After strolling around the forest for a few hours taking in the sights and sounds, we ended up at a place called Katoomba where they've got a lookout area called echo point. This gives you a quality view over the terrain where you can see for miles over the
Blue Mountains - The 3 Sisters
Kylie, Dani and the lesser known Shiela area. One of the highlights of the trip so far I reckon.
Till next time.......

Very Funny lad
Found this one very funny lad. Keep up the good work! Looking at that map on the bottom corner of this page, looks like you'll need about £300 worth of petrol to get up to Cairns. Looks about 2,000 miles away. At an average speed of 40mph driving 5 hours per day, that'll take you about 10 days rpovided you don't hit any kangaroos on the way. Apparently there's nowt but gum trees all the way up that coast so don't go falling asleep at the wheel. Take care lad and drive steady. Favva
