So were lost a day in here somehow. Hopefully I will remember what it was and then be able to tell you later. Also we were really out of Geraldine for this rafting on the Rangitata, the highlight of this trip maybe, around the Peel Forest. Somehow this was not an option so I randomly selected Fairlie. The Rangitata!!! Super!! Class V rapids, which we scouted out with our guide. I feel like we really had to learn something because if we didn't paddle correctly we were all going to flip. Oct 4 - Oct 18, South Island New Zealand After 24 hours in transit from Phuket to Christchurch, NZ, I was greeted at the airport by 2 very good friends, Phillipa Saxton and June Taylor. I met them on my trip 2 years ago in the Balkins. We spent the night at June's son's house in Christchurch. The next morning we toured Christchurch to see the damage from the 2 major earthquakes that happened in the past year. I had no idea how serious this natural disaster was. The city is basically shutdown. Two of the oldest cathedrals in the city were essentially destroyed. Since the last earthquake in February this year, there have been over 1000 aftershocks - in fact this week there was one that was 5.5 on the Reichter scale. They dont want ... read more

Geo: -44.0977, 170.829Woensdag 2 februariTegen de middag zijn we per taxi terug naar de luchthaven gereden en hebben we onze campervan gaan oppikken. Het is een Britz 4-berth, met 4 slaapplaatsen, een toilet/douche en een keukentje.Het is een beetje wennen om links te rijden en met zo'n gevaarte, maar dat went al snel. We hebben direct al de lokale supermarkt "Pack 'n Save" bezocht en ons ijskastje gevuld. Best gezellig hoor zo'n mobiel huisje. We hebben nog enkele uurtjes door de Canterbury plains gereden naar een campsite in Fairly. Hier hangt onze camper momenteel aan het stopcontact en is het tijd om de bedjes op te maken. Pennyfarthing

Not A Good Day Arrived in Christchurch on Friday afternoon and found Vagabond Backpacker hostel. Saturday set off and ran over some of the glass, which is at the roadside everywhere. The tell tale sound of a camera wirring was the indication for me to upend my bike and remove the rear wheel to replace the tube. The glass was monstrous and put about 4 holes in the tube - scrap. Tube replaced and on my way in 40 minutes. Struggled to get out of Christchurch due to lack of signs. Ended up on Highway one for most of way to Ashburton. Got lost again due to lasck of signs and didi exra 10 miles - yuck. Not a good start to New Zealand. Found accommodation with family friend now living in Ashburton and good rest. ... read more

Het is nu woensdag 7 maart. Maandagmorgen aangekomen vanaf Hong Kong. Eesrt geland op Auckland, en na wat zoekwerk ingestapt op de "domestic flight" naar Christchurch. Op het vliegveld een taxi genomen naar het hotel. Dit lag midden in de stad, maar helaas waren we zo moe dat we na een drankje en wat te eten naar bed zijn gegaan. Maandag 5 maart werden we om 8 uur opgehaald door Kea campers. De camper die wij hebben heeft kenteken DPP298. De inrichting is perfect. Dikke Ford, goede plaatsen in de "cabin" en het woongedeelte is ruim genoeg voor onze reis. TV aan boord, DVD speler, audio, keuken. TOP! Nadat we inkopen hadden gedaan bij de locale Woolworth's zijn we naar Kaikoura gereden. De Top10 camping was goed. Hier was het zo druk dat we om 06:00 ... read more
