1st november 2006 I finished last time by telling you I was off to throw myself out of an aeroplane and purely due to the fact that I am still here to tell you about the experience, I'm going to, so there! It was terrifying for all of about a second and a half. After that, it was simply the biggest rush of my cherished and charmed existence. However, the whole event started frustratingly. I booked for a midday pick up but, this got post-poned until four because of cloud covering the drop zone. With the Cumulus clearing during the afternoon I was hopeful of a tea time vertical traverse through the atmosphere but, despite seeing several others leave for the airfield, I got a call to say "Not today." The cloudy morning had caused such ... read more

well, i'm a little behind in my blogging, and i've kind of lost track of the days. guess i'll just report on what i can recall... btw, i'm sitting in a gaming/internet shop in what appears to be auckland's chinatown. the keys might be arranged funny and i can't read the chinese characters on the screen... anyways, after we pulled in to taupo we spent two nights there. i've already complained about how we couldn't find a place to eat the first night. but the next day was kind of pleasant. it was another down day for us and i managed to get a little more souvenir shopping done. for all you fishermen out there (john), taupo's a popular destination for trout fishing. there are several stores with gear for fly fishing, and excursions out on ... read more

Sunday 19th November Paul - As predicted the weather was crap so we left Tongariro National Park and we still hadn't seen any of the volcanoes through the mist! After a couple of hours driving along the coast of the biggest lake in New Zealand we arrived at Taupo, a little town settled on the lakes shore. We learnt quickly, due to the lack of rooms, that the World MotorCross championships was going on at the moment so we ended up in a slightly crappy hostel complete with dirty kitchen and wild ducks. Not wanting to spend a minute in the hostel we decided to go to 'Rock N Ropes' on Neal and Danielle's recommendation. I was very excited as it's an adventure playground for adults set about 12 metres above the ground. The good old ... read more

Whilst in Taupo we were feeling rather adventurous and took advantage of the best place to skydive in NZ as the views are spectacular. We planned on doing the jump from 12,000 feet and not buy any of the photos or dvd, but we were soon convinced that 15,000 feet was the way to go as the freefall was longer and of course we had to have photographic evidence!! Well worth it. The most intense rush of our lives! Clay was Mr. Cool Cucumber, until we hit about 13,000 feet....then it him too! So scary approaching that door and just falling out of it. The freefall was the most amazing/petrifying experience. Once you realize that you probably aren't going to die you look around and enjoy the view. As soon as the chute was pulled I ... read more

The bus picked us up from the YHA and headed round some other hostels then set route to Taupo via the thermal geyser on the outskirts of Rotorua, the geyser erupts approx 10:15 each day, we said how is that then we found out that it is helped on its way by adding soap as if not they could not tell when it would erupt, guess is every 48 hours. We left here and went to a ropes activity centre no one took part so moved on to the Hukka falls which looks impressive some did take a jet boat to them we then left and arrived in Taupo YHA for 1 night.... read more

Today was supposed to start with another trip underground (black water rafting) in the morning, followed by driving south in the afternoon and evening. Unfortunately it had rained very heavily overnight and most of the caves had flooded - so black water rafter was cancelled. Being a bit stuck on time and ideas on what to do we decided to head over to Lake Taupo to see what we could do. By the time we'd got there it was too late to do any of the trips so we visted the natural hot baths at Taupo. We had our private hot pool for a short while before going into the outside pools. They were hot! We decided to continue driving south as our ferry to the south island is on the 17th. We drove around Mt ... read more

Taupo is the largest lake in NZ and on it stands a lively picturesque town where we spent three days doing nothing in particular. The lake is an impressive sight with snow capped mountains in the distance. We were fortunate enough to get some nice weather whilst we were here. One night was spent in the local pubs with the next day being a total right off. Everywhere in the world you go there is always an irish bar and New zealand is no exception. Taupo is also in a mildly geothermal area , so there are hot springs to be swam in, in the Spa Park. This consists of one thermal stream leading into the massive Waitomo River. The river being absolutely freezing so it was kinda luke warm / cold / boiling depending where ... read more

Well its been a while since our last post, but we've been busy. After Auckland we headed south to the Coromandel Peninsula and took a kayaking trip to the stunning Cathedral Cove for some cappuccino's on the beach! Later that night we headed to Hot Water Beach, where you can dig your own hot spring spa in the sand. The spot is only accessible a half an hour before and after low tide. Not many people get to do this, but we had a perfect spot under the stars. Next day we jumped off the Stray bus in Hamilton, the largest inland city in NZ. The city is known for its shopping and pubs, and we did both. We were lucky enough to be guests of Jeff & Kelly, who own and operate two carwash and ... read more

Finally I'v remembered the photos!! the one as I'm about to jump out of the plane is a bit cheesy. Dont be fooled by the grin, I'm pooing my pants!!!! The scenery is amazing. Its a lake in the north Island called Taupo. As I'll keep saying, the photo's really dont do it justice! but you get an idea of the total awesomeness (is that a word or did I make that up?!) We went out in the evening with a couple of the instructors and met up with a few rafting instructors too. Wasn't really paying attention during the day as to what they looked like though, as I was so petrified about the jump, so when they said hello in the bar I thought they were randoms trying to pick us up! didn't even ... read more
