The Lake
Lake Taupo, created by a huge volcanic explosion (apparantly). Its Australasia's largest Lake. Taupo is the largest lake in NZ and on it stands a lively picturesque town where we spent three days doing nothing in particular. The lake is an impressive sight with snow capped mountains in the distance. We were fortunate enough to get some nice weather whilst we were here.
One night was spent in the local pubs with the next day being a total right off. Everywhere in the world you go there is always an irish bar and New zealand is no exception.
Taupo is also in a mildly geothermal area , so there are hot springs to be swam in, in the Spa Park. This consists of one thermal stream leading into the massive Waitomo River. The river being absolutely freezing so it was kinda luke warm / cold / boiling depending where you were. The river itself is really impressive with deep cystal clear waters, if you like you can bungy jump into it!
Taupo is known as the adventure capital of the North Island so you can skydive, raft, bungy or various other adrenalin pumping cash sucking activities. We did neither, as we are saving our hard earned cash for other adventures. This
Lake Again
Its that lake again is the cash drain with new zealand everything is activity based so it does get pretty expensive even if the cost of day to day stuff is quite low.
But so far New Zealand comes top in most categories!!
