Up well before the sun. Swans rush to greet me. Reminds me of Como foreshore. We leave early and find a quiet spot on the banks of Lake Taupo to have breakfast before heading to Taupo. Nice, however in our opinion, not ‘raveable’. An ordinary town situated on Lake Taupo. Busy. Huka Falls was the highlight. Flowing over a 9m fall in a narrow gorge at 200 000L/second, enough to fill 5 Olympic size swimming pools per minute. Cyclone Gabrielle had cut a swathe through the Taupo area. Hundreds of trees, many of them massive in height and girth, had been uprooted or split in half. Landslides and rockfalls were many. Numerous workmen were busy with chainsaws, cranes and other heavy lifting equipment as were opportunists gathering future firewood. I suggested we head to Kinloch about ... read more

Do slapov vodi potka iz parka Spa Thermal Park, sprehod do slapov in nazaj traja približno ... read more

Didn't win the $10,000 hole in one challenge. Was really windy, a swirling wind too, so I didn't even come close to be honest. Went on a sunset booze cruise on Lake Taupo. Really beautiful. There are a ton of really nice homes on the ridge overlooking the lake. Really clear lake too. Could see the bottom at places it was 20 feet deep. Today I did the hike. Was the hardest hike I've ever done in my life, but such an amazing view. The basic walk is a 19km hike which is supposed to take 6-8 hours. You have the option of also climbing the volcano, which is an additional 3 hours. So yeah, I climbed the volcano. It was incredibly steep and the rocks were really loose, so every step you took, you slid ... read more

Sat 26th Jan (Australian Day ....& the 12th anniversary of the day we met!) we left Catherine's house in New Plymouth to head North towards to Lake Taupo. It was supposed to be 280km but I'm not sure we went the most direct route and it ended up taking about 5 hours but we arrived at Lake Taupo mid afternoon, knackered but really impressed with the place. We had a nice lunch overlooking the lake and found a camp site that looked like it was straight out of the 1950's!!! Our first impression driving through the gates was 'carry on camping' but we took one look at the view from our cabin overlooking the lake and we were WOWED! The site was 'rustic' but it had everything including a flushing toilet with a view (the toilet ... read more
