After all the excitement (and early mornings!) of the last week, I deservedly had a lay-in. Today was going to be a chill day. I think I was up at around 8:30. Had my usual shower, and then went out for a walk up to the shops in Narrabeen. Eileen needed some bits and pieces for today’s barbecue at Bryan and Paul’s, which was partly to celebrate Danielle and Chris’ engagement. It was a twenty-minute walk along the main Narrabeen lakes, which is such a picturesque walk. It was another warm day, if a little overcast. The lakeside was quite busy too. A new café/restaurant had also opened, which was quite popular, and the boating place was also quite busy with everyone setting their boats up. Eileen got her shopping, and then we made our way ... read more

Arrived Mission Beach after a really boring and annoying trip down from Canz last night, full of kids and it was all a bit dull on the OZ Experience really and I was glad to see the back of them and the bus when I reached Mission Beach. Scotty turned up to meet us in his van and quipped 'I hope all the guys got life insurance' I spend a few days at Scottys' which was a real beach type hostel, 5 mins walk from the sea with Palm Trees everywhere. I was glad to me here and this is where I would make a few friends.... read more

I was up at 7am today. I’d set my alarm as I didn’t want to miss everyone leave. Had a quick shower, a couple of breakfast cereal bars and shot off downstairs. No one had stirred, so I went for a quick walk around town. I hadn’t taken any photos of Christchurch, so took some of the surrounding area of Cathedral Square. It was still really quiet everywhere. However, when I’d got back to the hotel, the Connections coach was parked out the front and Nick was loading all the suitcases onboard. There were a few of the guys outside, Christiano, Kevin and Yannick, so we had a quick chat until all of the others came out. I said my goodbyes to as many as I could; though I still missed saying my farewells to a ... read more

Nestled in the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast in Beerwah Queensland, we visited Australia Zoo, the official home of the Crocodile Hunter. In November 2003, we arrived early and met Brian and Stewie from the television show and had a brief chat. We asked them about the Irwins and they said they were there but not available. Brian was cleaning Agro & Cookie’s billabong (Aboriginal meaning "small lake") and he said he had no idea that the Crocodile Hunter was so big in America, but that he was just doing his job. (Is he joking???) He seemed surprised that we recognized him from the show. Next best to meeting Steve or Terri I reckoned :) Just to get the chance to SEE Australia Zoo was so inspiring! The first thing you see is Coot-tha, ... read more

We arrive in Sydney at 6:55am. Very excited now. Just want to see everyone, and to start hitting the Aussie roads. No problems going through passport control, etc., but stopped off at Downtown Duty Free to get Lorraine’s (Paula and Bryan’s next door neighbour) her brandy and menthol cigs. I considered that my good deed for the day. I tried to phone Bryan’s and Eileen’s numbers to let them know I’d arrived a little earlier than thought, but my phone wouldn’t work. I waited for about half-hour and made my way to the Avis desk. Just as I did, they came through the entrance. I said my ‘hellos’ then got the hire car sorted out. I got a free upgrade to a Holden (Vauxhall in England!) Astra. With a full tank of petrol, Damon came with ... read more

My flight from London Heathrow left 15 minutes late. I was sat next to some guy from Brisbane. He was about late 30’s and he had visited France, Finland, Scotland and England, and was on his way back to Brisbane via Singapore. As it was quite a long way to Singapore, about ten hours, I thought I’d make some good conversation. He was on his way back from this ‘business trip’. Hey if that’s a ‘business trip’, then I wouldn’t mind a bit of that! His name was Glenn. I asked him about his time abroad and he said he’d had an excellent few weeks, but was very keen to get back home to the heat! I told him about my holiday plans for the next few weeks, about how I love the Australian way of ... read more

15/11/03 Well we set off from the Woolshed backpackers at 12:30 after a slow start. The drive to Roma only took 8 hours!!!! Anyway, on the way there, we stopped for a cup of coffee and my favourite, tasteless...... RICE CAKES!! In a small town called Kilkaven. This was about three to four hours into the journey. I gave up right to drive the Subaru to Sara which later, turned out to be a mistake in more ways than one! She is actualy a very good driver. I used to take the mick though. Not a good idea considering how much I liked her. Anyway, whilst listening to Linkin Park and biting my lip, Shane and I had a great idea to steel a kangaroo sign. Sara pulled over and Shane and I ran to tackle ... read more
