On tour up East Coast About twenty on the bus Wine & Cheese tasting. I was thinking what luck it was for me and Nicola to have met at the hostel the night before heading out on tour on good ol' Oz Experience. I had a few reservations about using Oz Ex as opposed to using Greyhound but decided to go the super easy route and the little "extras" that you get. I was just worried about everyone being really, really young! But it is nice to have accommodations and buses and a bit of sightseeing all sorted out beforehand and it is awesome that Oz Exp is now being run by Australian Adventure tours. This all means they have been revamped. In my opinion all of the new brochures seem reminiscent of the Stray Bus ... read more

Absolutely shattered after two days travelling, but im here and safe in Sydney! Left all the parents at the airport crying as I went through passport control, god, embarrasing! Of course I was abit upset, as was my mum and step mum, but when my dad went, well really, I was hoping for better!!! Passport control people kept asking me if I was alright - ahhhh! Flights weren't too bad, was half empty so i had a whole 5 row of seats to myself! We were delayed by about an hour getting into Sydney. My brother Rob met me at the airport and took me to my hostel which was good of him as I obviuosly didn't have a clue were I was going! The hostel i'm staying in isn't too bad, i'm in a room ... read more

Well I started my fifth, yes fifth, job on Monday working as an IT technician in a hospital, finally something that I can do! Let me take you on a wander through my oh so brief Australian working history. When we landed in Perth we sent our CV's out to loads of agencies hoping to get temporary work. We knew it would be far easier to get work in the hospitality trade but we wanted to try and get Mon-Fri, 9-5 first so we could still enjoy our weekends together. So we sent out our CV's and I got a couple of calls to come in and meet with agencies who promised the world but who still havn't delivered. Then Fiona gets a job, we went to visit Lara at her work which happens to be ... read more

On Thursday night I left home with all my yearly belongings. We (Walsh &Goltzy) stayed at Bec's in Gladstone then Friday morning at sunrise we set of to Byron bay. We arrived before 2 after a pretty good drive and found the beach house, which was next to a backpackers and a 50m walk to the beach! The rest of the boys from Brissy arrived about 8:30pm (Gormo, ruebs, marty, kounga and moodie), we celebrated their arrival with some drinking games. Then hit the great northern hotel a few drinks and a band, top night! Saturday morn I hired a board and went for a surf for a few hours, while the boys recovered (nice clean little barrels)! In the afternoon we went up to the lighthouse and walked down to the most easterly point of ... read more

Saturday started with another amazing sunrise over cloudy sky in Williams Creek. Today we drove less than 200 km (but still on dirt roads) to the miners town Coober Pedy. I had big expectations from this visit - I heard it’s an underground town, built underground because of the very high temperatures in summer. So there are underground house (in fact the name means in Aboriginal “white man burrow”…), but there’s a lot of ugliness above ground. It looks like a Bedouin town in the Negev - all dusty, no sidewalks, no green. But we did have a good pizza for lunch and a good Greek dinner (many immigrants came there dreaming to become reach in the Opal mines), so how can I complain? And we slept in our own burrow - underground hostel! The highlight ... read more

Hi guys. I thought I would give a quick update seeing as I haven’t written in so long. Contrary to the rumors going around I have not been kidnapped by a gang of renegade kangaroos. I have been extremely busy with school the past month or so. I have about 3 weeks of classes left, then a couple of weeks off before exams. Luckily I only have 2 exams this semester, which isn’t too bad, but I have 4 major papers due by the end of the month. I forgot how stressful school can be! Besides being busy, I haven’t updated because I haven’t really done anything exciting. Just study and hang out with friends. I hope to go on a couple of trips in late June and early July, down to the Great Ocean ... read more

Visited the Rocks Contemporary Art...huh? I just don't get it. I tell ya sometimes I just chat and chat and before I know it the morning is gone! I should really pay more attention to the time. Feeling kinda lazy today. This afternoon I wandered down to the water again but this time to an area called the Rocks and Circular Quay where you can catch the various ferries. The Rocks is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Yup, confirmation that me and contemporary/modern art don't mix well. I just don't get it. Basically you can do just about anything and call it art is my impression of contemporary art. But I have a sneaking suspicious that there is more to it than that? Or perhaps not. haha Here are some examples of what was ... read more

We took three days to explore the Whitsunday Islands, which were absolutely beautiful. The sand was so white and fine, and the coral reef was amazing: we had perfect weather and alll was great.....except the boat that we were on was destined for the knackers yard...broken steering, broken toilet and the loss of one engine made the trip a little less than perfect but we still managed to have a ball. ... read more

Inspiration is the ultimate high. You know the feeling -- that "I can do it" feeling... The way I want to live my life is with a positive, somewhat carefree attitude. And sensible, but at the same time, a little crazy. I find that to always be in this mode is somewhat of a challenge. It's a challenge not to get stressed out, it is a challenge not to worry about things. So, for me, to meet people who constantly live their lives this way is inspirational. That's why when I sat and had coffee with a lady who lives her life "in the moment" this week, I was inspired. I have the utmost respect for someone who doesn't let things get them down and doesn't have a problem with not knowing ... meeting people like ... read more
