Arriving in Perth after a long haul flight is always a relief to see that by now familiar outline of the high rise city centre. In the past twenty years several new editions to the skyline have been made but they do nothing to entice me as I prefer to stay at a safe distance finding my first port of call with a friend in the suburbs of Victoria Park. The bus drops me off just east of the Swan River but rather than wait for a connection I amble the couple of miles in the scorching heat like those mad dogs and English men who revel to feel the sun on one back once again. Arriving hot at the house I find the key in the usual place, a convenient pot in the back yard ... read more

... read more

IN SEARCH OF SANITY. It is never a good idea for an artist to spend too much time at his own exhibition less it turns out to be his execution, while the general opinion may be glowingly positive he will remember above all that snide little cutting criticism that glinted on the blade of the axe just before it fell. If there is no audience then there is no show and so rather than blame myself for not realizing that the location was unsuitable, the publicity was insufficient or the timing was wrong I prefer to think that I have not just had an exhibition at the East Victoria Park Art Centre in Perth WA but that I now have an exciting body of work, framed and ready for sale. The firework display that followed the ... read more

Well we've survived Stacey's birthday celebrations! On Saturday we got up and went to Swan Valley for some wine tasting. We went to 3 places called Lancaster, Ugly Duckling and Sandalfords. We were able to work our way through their lists and taste various wines so as you can imagine we were a little bit merry after that! We then went back home and chilled out and then got ready and had drinks at the house. We then headed out at 11pm with Lauren, Jamie, Natalie and Jodee and went to Euro Bar in Northbridge. We then finally rolled in at 1am ish. Stacey then went to bed so the coast was clear for me to put up the balloons and banners that I got from the UK. We were then woken up by the girls ... read more

We're now at Perth, Oz and it is boiling! it is 36 most days but we cant complain, especially as it will be colder when we get to the east coast. Nicole's friend, Lauren, picked us up at the airport and we went back to her apartment in Victoria Park. It was lovely and has its own pool so we were impressed! We all had a catch up and then headed to the casino in Perth. We went to an Irish bar in there first and then headed to their nightclub called Eve. We all had a great night and rolled into bed about 4ish. We then went to Scarborough beach on the 21st and stayed in for the night as we were all knackered. On the 22nd we went to Cottesloe beach and saw the ... read more

Although it may be easier to find a job in Adelaide that it is to find reasonably priced housing in Perth, I think I have secured a nice studio apartment only 200 meters from my office :) 6/ 70 The Broadway Crawley WA 6009 I should get the key on Friday and Lyndsey is coming over this weekend to inspect the premises. I will be back on July 5 to load up the Musso with bric-a-brac and stick it on the Asian Pacific train at Keswick. The unit will be a plesant change to the back packers accomodation I now refer to as Baxters Detention Centre. Luckily I know a few locals including my old neighbour from Rostrevor Andrew Grant. ... read more

Well, it was a long long fantastic weekend for me. Dramatic for the rest of the household... So Friday evening when I got home, no one was around. Some lady knocked on the door, cigarette in hand and wanted to know if Su was home. I told her that no one was home and to come back tomorrow or I could leave a message. I guess she was the neighbor. She tried to acuse Blair's friends of stealing her motor bikes. She rambled on for about 10 minutes and I'm thinking... "This isn't getting you anywhere... I don't live here, I don't know what the hell you're talking about... sorry you lost your bikes, but I don't think Blair took them". She finally left. I passed the message on to Blair and Su when the got ... read more

On the Monday, having not long been in Perth, but acquainted themselves well with the route from the city centre to home, the guys headed into the city once more, this time by bus! With the nice, new, flashy camera deciding to pack in on the Sunday night, they wanted to try and get it fixed asap. Tried a camera shop, who tried a new battery but to no avail. The guy in there did recommend another place though where the bloke fixed cameras. So, it was on to there as it wasn't too far away. However, there wasn't much he could do either. He said he could have a go and try and fix it, but if it didn't work still then the warranty was invalid. In the end it was decided not to get ... read more
