Oct. 7th: This day didn’t exactly start off on the right foot. As we were getting ready to leave Fremantle, Hill dropped her small bottle of foundation. Not a big deal… until it hit the ground spraying foundation everywhere! And guess what? She was wearing her brand new light pink hoodie (not to mention it somehow even made it up to her face and on her contacts, which she was wearing at the time). Unfortunately it became stained. We tried washing it right away, but it was all in vain. As her only sweatshirt, she was really bummed (and since it was bought at an outlet shop, they had no more in her size). But we had a schedule to follow, so off to Bunbury! Bunbury’s a cute little town located right on the coast, about ... read more

After leaving Augusta we traveled along Caves Road towards Margaret River. Along this road and around this region are over 200 caves hidden within the Limestone ridge, thus the name Caves Road. We stopped at Jewel Cave and did a tour. The cave once had an underground lake and the water and made the formations appear to glitter like jewels. The cave last had water in it around 9 years ago. The day was very rainy so we decided to go as far as Margaret River and stay there the night. Around Margaret River is beautiful country with wineries everywhere, green rolling hills with cows. I really liked the country but the town didn't overly impress me. The next morning we did the touristy thing and went to a cheese factory where we all tried some ... read more

We'd heard bad weather was expected in Perth and surrounds so we bunkered down another day in Margaret River - very glad we did as they had a mini tornado in Bunbury with quite a bit of damage. We were tossed a bit and had some heavy showers but stayed dry. We took advantage of a window of sunshine in the afternoon and drove into town for a bit of relief from cabin fever before it all began again. Yesterday we left Margaret River and once more had a pretty drive through farmland and vineyards till we came to Busselton. It's such a pretty beachside town but we'd no sooner arrived than it started pouring once more. We drove to the famous jetty and had lunch overlooking it and the beach - not the best view ... read more

Alright people. Just a text update tonight. I is ere in the small town of Bunbury which is apparently the main town in the South West, though you wouldn't think it. I set off from Perth this morning and went to a supermarket for some nuts, bananas and water. On the way I took a diversion and went on a mini walk into the bush - the Yalgorup national park. Then I arrived in Bunbury where there is a bay where you can swim with dolphins. Went for a swim but they did not come, although I saw a couple after I was back on shore. Then I took a walk on the mangrove swamp boardwalk. Photo to be uploaded later. The hostel (Dolphin Retreat YHA) is very friendly and much better than the place in ... read more

After what seemed like years of planning we finally made it over to Western Australia to stay with Amy & Ethan. It was luxury to be picked up from the airport and delivered to a nice comfy room and a home cooked dinner! We deliberately timed it so we could spend Christmas there and were fortunate enough to be invited to Amy’s Christmas Party, I was to accompany an old guy that turned out to be originally from Chatham and Steve was set up with the cleaning lady! But with free dinner and booze who is to argue! Feeling in the Christmas spirit we headed out the next day to get a Christmas Tree (which the boys had to cut down themselves!) We arrived in Bunbury (where they live) in time for the crabbing season, so ... read more

After breakfast we drove up the coast towards Yellingup. En route Matt spotted a sign for a sheep shearing shed advertising ugg boots so we decided to follow it as I’d been thinking about buying some. Outside the shop there were some sheep in a pen. Most of them had been sheered already and looked a bit naked and lost. We patted them and they immediately tried to eat our clothes. The shop was full of woollen clothes and ugg boots in lots of styles. Matt persuaded me to try on a big woolly jumper that he liked and reluctantly I did. I hated to admit it but I loved it and had to buy it! It wasn’t the most practical thing to buy when I was in a hot country (although today it had been ... read more

Went to see the Boltanic rocks on the west side of Bunbury, the book says they are 150 million years old and the sign on the beach says 40 million - so somewhere in the middle i guess!! They are volcanic rocks. Walked up the hill to the view tower, the old lighthouse, that was moved to this point in the 70's. Spectacular view of Bunbary bay! Had a wonder down "cappucino Street" and baught a new book! Chris starting laughing as he found two books called: "The dude's pregancy guide" and "Oh S**t i'm up the duff" !!!!! Then spent the rest of the afternoon walking round and along the beach... Decided that Bunbury is a really nice place and defeintly worth spending a few days there...... read more

Drove to Bunbury up the coast on the way to Perth. The sun is out for good!! woo hoo and it's hot - first day with no rain!!! Went down to the sandy beach in Koombana Bay. White sand - blue sea - clear sky - heaven! Wild dolphins come up in this bay and swim around you... Headed back to the campsite, spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool. Today was a lazy but nice day enjoying the sun....... read more
