We were at the jetty right on time, having sussed out where it was the day before. After the mandatory safety briefing we headed out to sea! We took this opportunity to nap for there wasn't much to see but blue, blue ocean! Starting at the place they call the hotspot we spotted blows mere minutes after dropping into the canyon. One of the orcas broke water’s surface with their dorsal while the other hung low, their blows sweeping over the shallow swell lines. We waited patiently while they ducked below the waves maintaining a consistent 3-minute dive interval before resurfacing again. At first, we noticed just 3 then 4, then 10 and finally 12 individuals. The others must have been hiding underneath when we first saw the blows. The large pod had 3 young males ... read more

Tuesday 7thMay saw us spending a long day in the car with a quick stopover at Hopetoun (for a stretch and play at the park) and a road side stop in the middle of nowhere with an overheating car. We were able to park our caravan alongside their cottage, and I convinced Paul to set up the awning so that, when it rained, as it was apparent that it would, I would not get wet dashing to the cottage for my midnight visit to the bathroom. Anyway, there ensued a big, big storm and suddenly, there was a massive crack (followed by a blood-curdling scream - ed.) and our awning collapsed under the weight of the ... read more

5-3-10 Friday, how things can change, Dennis went to book into the park for another night & they were pretty booked out as there is a Ulysses’ Motor Biker’s National Rally in Albany all next week. It would have meant that we would have had to move sites. It was raining & cold so we decided to move on, not knowing where we would end up. We got on the road at 10.30 & headed to fill up with Fuel ($1.25) & Gas was (.83c) . We stopped for lunch at 1pm & then we wanted to see at Bremer Bay. We got there & booked into the Bremer Bay Tourist Park a Top Tourist Park & $27 a night with discount, for the night & set up really quickly & went for a walk around ... read more
