Hello everybody, I said i would maintain email contact, and so far i haven't really, but i guess it's only been just over a week. Nothing really too eventful to say so far. I'm in melbourne, in a beachside town called St. Kilda. It's really nice, although it's a bit of a trendy place. Full of trendy clothing shops and cool cafes. Places to spend money, when i don't really have the funds to spend money, or the room to accumulate things. But there's always just hanging out at the beach. But there hasn't really been much, if any nice weather yet. A bit of rain, and quite a bit of grey skies. I think i have about a month until consistently nice weather. I'm not minding it too much, because it's still better weather than ... read more

Time seems to be rushing by now with 11 more days left. We are currently in Melbourne staying with Helen. Went to Healsville Sanctuary today returning home in torrential rain. Anyway, back to Hervey Bay........ Fraser Island was really different, but enjoyed the day driving around and on the sand dunes and beach "highway". Saw a real wild Dingo, a ship wrech and lots of birds. We then rented a car and drove down the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane. Stayed one night with friends of a friend near Cooroy. These friends have a little dog and to cut a long story short, Val, who had been told to keep her hands away from the dog didn't and finished up getting bitten and having to get five stitches the next day. All is well and her hands ... read more

Tuesday, 26 October 2004 Today I took a pleasant four hour drive from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance. Checked out the centre and it looks like a busy three days coming up. The Budget Motel is four star accommodation and is next to the eastern end of the lakes. My evening meal was at the Waterwheel Beach Tavern on the shore of Lake Tyers. The weather is muggy but I think sleep tonight will be without too many problems. Wednesday, 27 October 2004 After sleeping well, I woke around six o'clock. Outside it was raining heavily and I noticed the window had been left open all night. Arrived at the centre and talked to the director about the next few days of photography. I decided to work this centre differently. Didn't worry about how many shots I ... read more

In Echuca, Vic. Spent something like 10 hours on the bus getting to Melbourne and then had all day in the city to wait for my bus to Echuca. First impressions of Melbourne - FANTASTIC! So much going on! There's the fringe festival, an arts festival, something like 5 sports stadiums, and an outdoor music venue near the botanic gardens. Another place I wish I had more time to check out... I've got to return to Australia in the future when I'm rich. It was a shame saying goodbye to Paul after such a short time. I'd only known him for a week but he was such a gem of a travel buddy: easy going, lots of laughs. Hopefully we'll meet up in Melbourne at the end of the month when I go back there. Work ... read more

Sunday, 10 October 2004 This morning I had to photograph a communion at a local church. It was after mid-day when I left for Bendigo. A three hour drive through Yea and Seymour. The weather was warm and no traffic to talk about. I was going to stay at a Best Western Motel but on approaching the outer suburbs of Bendigo I drove right past the motel and finished near the Kindergarten I was due to work in the next day. I noticed a Golden Chain Motel across the road and enquired about accommodation. The only room they had left was a family unit. So for the price of a single bed which was eighty dollars a night, I thought it was good value. It was a large room with a clean bathroom. There was also ... read more

Sunday, 12 September 2004 It was a wet morning when I said goodbye to my girlfriend on the steps of her unit. Its been ages since I have left for a country job without booking ahead but could not decide where to stay. Once I got over the hills near Yea the weather improved and progressively brightened up as the car got closer to the New South Wales border. I had read all the details concerning this job and wasn't too impressed with the numbers. Families: One-hundred and seventy. Children per day: Sixty-six. All housed in four rooms but that number was over five days I must add. A new centre in a new suburb of Wagga. Could not find the street name in my New South Wales road directory. Found one street that looked the ... read more

Friday, 3 September 2004 Arrived in Beechworth on Tuesday night after photographing at a centre in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. The Golden Chain Motel just on the out skirts of town is a nice motel with a verandah around the outside. The back rooms have a commanding view of a valley with the township on the distant hill. I'm on the other side of the motel that doesn't have a view but the room is still good. I'm getting my meals at a pub in town that allows "charge back". It took me a bit of time to find the centre on Wednesday morning, when It eventually came into view I could not remember working in this Day Care Centre before. I thought getting shots as the children played outside might make life easier later ... read more

With only having a short time in Austrialia I thought I should cram as much as possible. Organised a trip along the Great Ocean Road and a wildlife trip to see the Phillip Island penguins. The Great Ocean Road trip turned out to be a geographers/geologists/photographers dream. We got to see wild kangaroos that have made their home on a private golf course, as well as a wild Koalas. The main part of the trip was to see the amazing coastal scenery that Victoria is famous for. Victoria as in the state in Austrialia - not me! The following day the trip consisted of visitng a wildlife sanctuary which involved getting up close and personal with orphaned wombats, kangaroos, koalas and not so personal with dingos Phillip Island was the next stop to see tiny timid ... read more

Well last night was so much fun.... just a shame it has taken me twenty-odd days to add another a journal entry.  Just in case you werent aware, I have spent the past 22 days travelling home, going back to work, watching olympics etc.  Anyway - the neighbours night!!  The pics will be on here soon or as soon as I am organised enough to move the pics between computers and onto the net.  Unfortunately Toadie couldn't make it but they managed to get Steph Scully at the last minute to appear at the neighbours night with Harold (who atually isn't that fat) Bishop and Carl (yummy) Kennedy.  After the crowd was warmed up, having sung or screeched the neighbours theme tune til we could we were hoarse like Madge the stars appeared.  They came around the ... read more
