G'day folks and greetings from a dull and wet Melbourne! After a fantastic 4 and a bit weeks in Australia (starting in Cairns, renting a car called Shiela and driving down to Sydney before flying to Uluru and finally Melbourne) our time here is nearing an end and we are quite sad! Christopher arrived in Cairns the day after us to embark on a 5 week trip with 4 women and then when we reached Brisbane lovely Yvonne joined the Motley Crew of 5 women and one poor sod who will never be the same! We are not going to boar you with the gorey details of the trip because the photographs will speak for themselves but here is a taster of what we have done since our touch down in Cairns on 12th September 2007: ... read more

Well, I met up with a friend from high school on Monday for lunch. She is here in Australia student teaching. She is actually living over in Perth, but is on holiday from teaching so she made a trip over to Melbourne for a few days to stay with another of her friends. I ended up spending the entire afternoon with her as we went down to the Docklands, Melbourne Central, Fed Square, the ACMI, the State Library, etc. It was so surreal to be the tour guide and not the tourist. I realized how much like "home" this place has become and how comfortable I have started to feel here....it's kind of crazy. I felt so foreign and out of place just 10 weeks ago and now everything seems to just fit. It was great ... read more

Hello there- I guess I am writing this blog knowing that I am about to step into a whirlwind of a week ahead! As much as I love to "live up" my weekends, I think I am going to chill out this weekend because I have so much coming up next week! However, tonight, I did not take it easy. I went to my classes today and then caught a train down to the city. We had a SwinMates event tonight called "Melbourne City Secrets". Basically, it was a big scavenger hunt type thing around the city and I got to see so much of the city I had never seen! I didn't really get to take a lot of photos, so I think one day I'm going to go back down and look at it ... read more

Well, most of you know how I feel about the letter "W", including the fact that I refer to it as "double u" and not "dubya"--don''t even get me started on that rant! But, I am beyond pleased to share my dear letter with the wombats & wallabies of the world. Afterall, that is what a world wanderer would do, right? So yesterday Val (and I must clarify that she is not my sidekick, rather that designation belongs to our new fellow travel companion, Lou), Lou, & I headed off to the Taronga Zoo. The Taronga Zoo in Sydney is BEYOND spectacular, in fact I want to move in with the animals! They have amazing views...and it is the most amazing zoo I have ever visited (no offense Chris)! We were fortunate to see a baby ... read more

This is about a conference trip to Melbourne. Or what happened in the meanwhile and after it. Luckily I had a free weekend after the conference, so I had a chance to do the most typical tourist things, see the "Penquin Parade" and Great Ocean Road. Australians were quite like the stereotypic image I had before landing down under: friendly, straight and most of them also tanned a bit like Crocodile Dundee. Well, most people I talked to, were immigrants from Europe or Asia, though they have tightened the restrictions for those willing to move in to Australia. Photos will be available soon... ... read more
