...she shall bring snow. Not around here she don't; more like a forty degree wave of heat from the furnace-like interior. So, to avoid frying, we are up with the cockatoos and cycling by daybreak. This strategy is working remarkably well, delivering comfortable rides in cool temperatures and on quiet roads, and arrival at destination by lunchtime, thus giving us the afternoon and evening for assorted domestics and relaxing. The major disadvantage of the early shift is the legion of ravenous mosquitoes queued up outside the tent waiting for the first succulent limb to emerge. So, by this means we have ventured eastwards from Melbourne (courtesy of a lift to Lilydale from Peter and Roslyn) and then down to the coast, using quiet roads and rail trails. At Venus Bay we enjoyed the beach and a ... read more

And it's all "Harry Potters" fault!!! We asked him which way to go through Melbourne and he took us on the toll road through the tunnel! He said, "The invisibility cloak would help.... But it didn't work, we saw the flash of the camera! No toll booths here! So we had to make a run for it! The race was on to dodge the toll police......... We then promptly broke the law again, by illegally parking up for the night at Venus Bay. We weren't spotted! The invisibility cloak must have worked this time. After a sleepless night we rolled into a town, popped into an information place and confessed our sins. Only to be told, "You have 3 days to pay the toll, you can pay at any post office". "If it's not paid by ... read more

The cricket club put on a progressive dinner on Sunday. For those who don't know, this is where you go to 2 or 3 houses to eat depending on the number of courses. We all met at the club around 11am with a slab each. First job was getting the beer in the coolers. After a swift couple we set off to the first port of call which was Pongo's house for starters. It was another really hot day so it was important to carry a few beers whilst walking to keep the fluid levels up. After a grueling 5 minutes we arrived at Pongo's. The afternoon pretty much carried on in the same vain. Main’s were at Webby’s place and finally ended up at Soc’s house for desert and pool volleyball. All the food was ... read more

Here are some pictures from the place I’ve been working at in Traralgon. Graham Tainton owns the place and was kind enough to give me a job while his engineer was away on Honeymoon. I've been repairing all sorts of electrical appliances and delivering them all round the area. Been a great way to meet people and see a bit of the area. Had so many people invite me round for tea or BBQ. Unfortunately i won't get time to take them up as I leave Marks place on the 7th of October to have a look at the great ocean road and Geelong. Me and Mark will spend a few days on the road before heading to melbourne to catch the plane up to Brisbane.... read more

Played 2 games for Traralgon Imperials now. Not had the best of starts personally, but once again the nerves have been getting the better of me. It’s pretty different to being back home. The outfield is unbelievably slow this time of year. As soon as the ball hits the ground it stops. Hit a few shots right out the middle that ended up stopping or going for 1. Batted twice now and made 1 and 13, been coming in at 6 needing to score quickly. Could do with going in a bit earlier to get used to the conditions but never mind. The main thing is we've won both games. They even let me have a bowl this weekend. To be far i was crap but still took 2 wickets finishing with figures, 3 overs, 2 ... read more

I'm now 9 hours in front so be difficult to text but i'm getting a new sim card today so you can always. Cheapest way for me to keep in touch will be email but won't be able to get on all the time so don't take it personally if it takes me a while to get back to you. Tried a bit of kangaroo meat already, tastes like steak. Should be able to get some pictures on soon so you can see where i've been. Love to everyone. Calvin... read more
