Visoke strme stene smo videle le v daljavi.

Was fuer eine Sauerei! ... read more

Alas, our time in Tas has drawn to a close. I have provided some key phrases to best sum up our time here in the Apple Isle (if you look closely you may stumble across a common theme): “It’s raining cats and dogs", "Nice weather for ducks", "It’s bucketing down." Yes, the precipitation has been at times intense, but despite the generous proportion of water that has fallen from the heavens Carissa and I have enjoyed our time down under immensely. We have spent the last month in the township of Nubeena, a small coastal hamlet located on the south-western side of the Tasman Peninsula. Carissa has ‘held the fort’ at the local pharmacy in the owner's absence, while I have put my carpentry skills into practice at the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park. The park is ... read more

We started the day in the Forest & Heritage Centre in Geeveston Town Hall where we acquired various materials from the visitor information section and purchased our tickets for the Tahune Forest Airwalk and Eagle Glide. We drove the 26 kilometres to the Tahune Forest Reserve and spent about an hour walking high above the rainforest (about 25 to 50 metres) on an aerial walkway which, among other things, provided a magnificent view of the Huon and Picton River confluence. After this we walked the 10 minutes to the Eagle Glide. This is a suspended hang-glider ride high above the forest which crosses the Huon River at an elevation of about 70 metres. We had two goes each on the fast setting! Next we drove back towards Geeveston but detoured on a dirt road into the ... read more

This morning we tried our hands at sea kayaking. The water was warm and the not too choppy. It was lots of fun and we managed quite well. No falling in the water or turning the boats over. The weather was pefect and the silence out on the bay a welcome change. We drove south to the Tasman Peninsula, over EAglehawl neck where we saw the famous blow hole and Tasm,an Staying in a wonderful colonial house right on the waterfront not far from Port Arthur. It was so cool. The house was originally a convict probationary house and workshop . Nearby is the Tasmanian Devil conservation facility and we spent an hour here this morning watching the devil's being fed. A Gorgeous Day in Convict Land We started our day by checking out of our hotel in Hobart. The plan was to drive to the Tasman Peninsula (Tasmania was found by a man named Tasman and thus there are a few places in town with his name attached) in the south east corner of the state. The Tasman Peninsula contains the remains of one of the largest of the original convict prisons constructed to house British criminals in Australia. Located at Port Arthur, Tasmania, there are ruins of 35 of the building left. Our goal for the day was to eventually end up here for a peek at one of Tasmania’s biggest tourist attractions. The roads in Tasmania are not very wide, so I had to really concentrate on sticking close to the center line in ... read more

The Tasman National Park is in the far southeast of Tasmania, about an hour and a half's drive from Hobart. The Tasman Peninsula has the highest vertical seacliffs in Australia - it was the aim of our hike to see these (and hopefully not get blown off - they're 300 metre vertical cliffs!). We headed down to Fortescue Bay on the eve of Australia Day 07. For the second and final time, I made the mistake of leaving it to BF to organise the trip. Noting that parts of the track we'd be walking were subject to gale force winds, I left plans with my supervisor at work with instructions that if I didn’t show up on Monday, would she please lead the search & rescue effort? In the end, it turned out that BF was ... read more

Off the ferry in Kettering, we return to Hobart - which we cross in a matter of minutes (London, you have a lot to answer for) - and head eastwards, passing through the town of Sorell where we pick up a large bag of fresh Tasmanian scallops for dinner. Our destination is yet another part of eastern Tasmania's convoluted coastline: the Tasman Peninsula. Connected to the rest of the island by the wispiest of isthmuses, the Tasman Peninsula looms large in Tasmania's history, as well as its present. We've managed to find a wonderful place to stay in the small village of Taranna - one of three self-contained cottages surrounded by bush not far off the main highway from Hobart. The cottages are owned by a charming local lady who also happens to be the owner ... read more
