We again walked past the Blue Lake and bussed it in to MG, made a pleasant change to walking in. Then, because we missed the connecting bus, we again walked. This time to Engelbrecht Caves, this is a huge complex of limestone caves under the city and first explored around 1884. Cave divers "crazy buggers" regularly explore this site and have provided maps showing the extent of this system. One vast chamber is under the Jubilee Hway, divers report that they can hear the sound of heavy transport. The next part of our adventure, was actually on motor bikes (how strange) . We had heard from several people about Port McDonnell being a fabulous place to stay, so we rode the 25km east to check out what we had missed out on. Admittedly, the day wasn't ... read more

After a very crisp evening, dawn broke through the clouds to a glorious morning and we decided to walk for the day. We are camped right at the Blue Lake, so everywhere we go, we have to go around the lake to get there. Our first stop was an Aquifer tour that took us in a glass paneled lift down the original dolomite well shaft, from which the water was originally extracted. We then walked through a tunnel to get a closer look at theBlue Lake. We are lucky that the lake is still a vivid blue as it changes to a darker colour in Autumn. I am happy to explain the fundamentals of the change if anyone would like a personal detailed 30 minute powerpoint presentation . We walked into central MG and found the ... read more

TOM SAYS........ Finalm... read more

TOM SAYS.... Hi everyone, we've had a super busy week and haven't had time to do a blog! We had a BIG pre christmas party with all our cousins at our Uncle Roberts house. It was a hot day and there was a smimming pool set up and lots of water guns. We had a BBQ and me and Elliott got really sunburnt! On Sunday Uncle Craig helped me saddle up the pony and I went for a ride which was really nice : ) Granny took us for a drive the other day and we stopped to look at the Blue Lake. We've been to a really cool play ground down in the valley lakes with our cousin and walked through the nature park where we saw kangaroos and kookaburras and two red chickens that ... read more

Yesterday, I learned that after five long years Jessie's academic efforts have paid off in the persuit of her chosen career. Yesterday she received her finals results for her final year of an Industrial Design Degree and has graduated with First Class Honors. Regardless of anyones talents this is, to me, a fantasic outcome. I'm sooo proud of you Jess. Throughout those 5 years there have been some really hard times for Jessie, some periods of serious self doubt that she believed that she didn't have the fortitude to deliver. For no one other than Jessie, I am so thrilled that she found the strength from within herself to stay the course and complete what she started. Was it any easier for her sisters, Briar and Megan? Is it any easier for their step sisters? No ... read more

Greetings from my new home, Mount Gambier, South Australia. What a beautiful city this is. Trees, parks, cafes and some cool shops in the main street. It’s about the same size as Nelson City, 25,000 residents and like Nelson there seems to be plenty going on here. Upon my arrival I ended up in a motel that was simply awful. Apart from the calf shit yellow décor, I believed that I had plunged myself back in time to a 3 star motel from the 70’s. Not even the hint of an Internet connection but what really concerned me was that I appeared to be the only person in the 30 unit complex. So the next day after meeting with my new bosses, Pat & Michael, I found a more 20th century motel and yes, they had ... read more

Blog 25 - South Australia here we come Sorry for the delay. I placed the photos in this edition of the blog and began the draft on 22nd January. A LOT has happened since then. It’s going to be a big one, so sit back, relax and enjoy. It was Monday 9th January when we crossed the border into South Australia. We spent 2 nights in Naracoorte Showground in cold windy weather. Naracoorte Caves National Park was listed on the World Heritage List in 1994, “recognising the universal value of the incredible fossil deposits found in the caves” in 1969.Victoria Fossil Cave contains the remains of marsupials and other long extinct animals in the largest deposit of fossils yet found. It was truly amazing to think that for thousands of years, creatures roaming the countryside were ... read more

La ... read more

A few of us from Adelaide rode to Mt Gambier to fly the friendship flag for the MRA on their annual Toy Run. The ride started from Naracoorte on a fresh Saturday morning. The road to Penola was delightful amongst 100 or so other bikes. After a short rest we rode onto Mt Gambier for a parade through the town and finished up at the lake. After a nice evening eating out with friends, we enjoyed the ride back to Adelaide via Robe and other harbour towns.... read more
