Sydney to Kangaroo Island We arrived in Sydney early on Feb. 13 in time to see the sunrise and the Sydney Opera House coming to life. Unfortunately, our ship had to dock in Darling Harbor, under the Harbor Bridge and around the corner from Circular Quay where the Opera House is located. However, our tour with Karen took us out of the city and into the beautiful Aussie countryside across the Hawkesbury River to the Hunter Valley wine area. We visited three wineries and tasted some interesting wines, including a sparkling Riesling which we had never before tasted. Our wine supply is growing as we did buy a couple of bottles of Shiraz and Chardonnay. That night we returned in time for a barbeque on deck and, would you believe, a bottle of Aussie beer? The ... read more

Got picked up at 6.20am for our trip to Kangaroo Island. Drove for an hour an a half before catching the ferry across to the island. On the ferry ride across we saw some dolphins in the water. Upon arriving on the island our first stop was on one of the beaches on the south coast. it was a lovely beach with very soft sand and beautiful turquoise colour water. The water was a bit on the chilly side as there is nothing south of this island until you reach Antartica!!!! After the beach we were driving along when the tour guide suddenly pulled over at the side of the road and got out of the bus. A few minutes later he came back with an echidna that he had caught attempting to cross the road. ... read more

Hi Guy's It's Friday afternoon and Deb and l have just enjoyed a magnificent day at Peddington Beach. We were kept entertained by a large pod of dolphins surfing up and down the beach. We have been here a week now and have experienced both ends of the spectrum as far as the weather goes. Two days ago blowing a gale and 20 degrees and today 35. We have just about done all of the island and taken in some great scenery. There has been some light hearted criticism that my wife does not figure in many photo's so l have tried to rectify the situation. Must go as l am on a promise to cook Deb calamari for tea. Fifteen minutes in the boat should be enough time to catch a feed. Being Friday night ... read more

Hi All, We are camping in a lovely spot named American River. A pretty little place, with a general store and not much else. Having a great time, have set up camp and Glenn has had the boat in. There is a boat ramp not 200 metres away. Had our first feed of calamari and whiting which was beautiful. Went up to the North Coast today and will be heading back there. Beautiful beaches and great snorkelling. Didn't think the weather was going to be so kind so was ill prepared. Will try and post some photos. Staying here till next Tuesday so have lots of time to see the rest of the island. Glenn is still keeping fit on a walk as we speak bye for now Deb & Glenn... read more

Hi everyone, Day 3 of our trip, and we are waitin for our Ferry to take us to Kangaroo Island. The Ferry leaves from Cape Jervis and is a 45 minute trip. We survived our departure on Wednesday not without the obligitary hitch, a problem with the fridge in the car. All sorted now. Yes there were tears but overall I contained myself quite well I thought. Bud was a little confused though. Camped at a lovely place near Naracoote on Wed. Bool Lagoon a bird watchers paradise, and had a lovely bottle of bubbly to celebrate our first night. (thanks Harrisons.) Camped at Deep Creek Conservation Park close to Cape Jervis.Thurs night. Again lovely and quiet. We are managing the trailer well, just fine tuning the routine. Will be on Kangaroo Island and will keepyou ... read more

Hey Now! Crossed over from the mainland to spend a couple of days on Kangaroo Island, in South Australia. It's a fairly primitive island, with relatively few amenities to speak of, and has a really remote feel even though it's only a 45 minute ferry ride off the coast. Once here though, you're in another world altogether. Typically, there's an abundance of wildlife, including kangaroos, penguins, and koalas. However, due to the severe weather we ran into, all we got to see plenty of were Australian Sea Lions and New Zealand Fur Seals. The terrain and coastline are spectacular, and with the hurricane like winds, we got to witness the wrath of the Indian Ocean up close. The main scenic and wildlife areas are about a 150 km drive from the island's docking point, so there ... read more

2-8 May 2011 Adelaide! Can't believe we're here already, the last six months has flown by at an alarming rate. Driving into Adelaide opened my eyes to what a beautiful city it is. So many beautifully kept old houses with lovely flowering gardens. Caught up with a friend from back home, who inspired Reef to rename our camper "Fiona". We stayed right on West Beach just near Glenelg and it's here where we met up with mum and dad. Was so great to see them, especially in a foreign place. We spent a day in Hahndorf, an old German town in the Adelaide Hills. Such a quaint little town with interesting shops. There was nothing little about lunch though! The world's biggest hotdogs and hamburgers. We took the boys into Misty Hollows which was a fairytale ... read more
