So it is that we pull in to Adelaide on this winters afternoon 81 days after our departure. We have travelled a total of 14000kms and spent approximately $4000 on diesel. We have stayed at 37 different locations, ensuring a well organised routine 37 set ups and 37 pack ups later. We have travelled the Nullarbor to the coast, the Kimberley’s and the NT and back to our home turf of SA. What an amazing trip! I have no doubt that we will have a lot of wonderful memories of our journey to the west for many years to come. Here marks the end of our adventures and our stories of Heading West in 2008. We know that this will be the inspiration for many more Australian driving trips to come. Heading West 2008 1. Streaky ... read more

After many years of considering the idea of a WA Trip, the leave has been granted, equipment organised, bags packed and we are on the road. Many adventures await the Collopy crew as we spend 3 months making our way across the Nullarbor to Perth, up the expanse of the WA coast, across to Darwin and back down the centre. With our only plans being a week in Streaky Bay and a week in Kalbarri, we are free to explore the sights and sounds that take our fancy along the way. We are in no doubt that we will have developed an expert knowledge of all beaches and and playgrounds along the west coast!. Matt's Eye View The WA coastal trip had been calling me for some time; it was over five years ago that I ... read more

Adelaide's not really on the backpacker trail but we were there to see our big buddies Smags and Linda and our Godson Liam who emigrated here 2 years ago. Fitton and Helen were also flying from Sydney to Adelaide that day and had got an earlier flight. Arriving at the airport we disembarked the plane into the searing South Australia heat and made our way through arrivals. I'm still not sure if the heat was from the sun or from Linda sat inside the airport, steam coming out of her ears with excitement. Kelly was exactly the same, a right giddy kipper, chewing her lip nervously as she always does. ... read more

Planning It has been forecast to be hot in Adelaide today (38 degrees) so we will start out early and visit Hallett Cove Conservation Park. We have done parts of this walk several times before - and it can be a little cool most days, but it is ideal on the mornings of hot days that are reasonably still (wind-wise) and bright (improving contrast between the blue sky and the eroded hills). The reason we like this walk so much is the opportunity to learn more about rocks and geology (which is one of Dan's passions) and it is really amazing - you can see where the glaciers have been by looking at the scratches they left behind in rocks! There are plenty of signs along the path about the geology - so you can ... read more
