Back from sailing on the Pride of Airlie today! We sailed around the Whitsundays for 1 full day and one half a day. On the second day our boat broke down and was collecting water- i thought we were gonna have to go overboard! We met some lovely people, the majority of which were from England! Soo many people from soo many different walks of life. It was an interesting couple of days. Contrary to what we were told when it was sold to us- we didn't actually get to do any sailing on this trip- just got to sit there and look pretty! The skipper and the team were lovely esp Natalie- the new hostess all the way from Essex! She was such a laugh and really made our trip enjoyable. We stayed on South ... read more

Hey everyone speaking so soon again after Fraser Island just 2 days later and it was time for us to set sail onto the Whitsundays. First of all before all that we had to stay a night at a hostel and we met up with a few others from the previous trip and had a few drinks with them!!!! Then it came the next day time to sail we first went to a meeting to get information and rom keys for the island we were staying on. After that we set off down to the little harbour with all the boats. This was where i decided it would actually be a good idea to hire a stinger suit so i didnt get stung by a box jellyfish which would not have been to fun at all. ... read more

Woke up feeling rotten but convinced myself I was ok to dive...once inthe water I just felt worse. Everything felt awkward and uncomfortable, Started feeling a bit panicky and queesy so Anika took me up to the surface and I went back to the boat. Feeling thoroughly dissapointed in myself I sat inside and tried to cheer up. When we returned to Airlie beach I was feeling much better. Went for food with Pete, Alex and Tom. The guys had arranged a nightout at Beaches Bar in town so we all met up with everyone else about 8pm and drank too much snakebite. Got told off for dancing on the table!! oops! Went on to a bar called Mama Africa but was so tired I headed home bout 2.30am.... read more

Our second day on the boat started bright and early as Damo was up at 6am preparing brekky for us all. Since my 'bed' consisted of the table being lowered and mattress placed on it I kinda had to get up for brekky! The sun had just risen the whole place was quiet and still. Simon steered us to Whitsunday Island itself so we could take the short walk over to WhiteHaven Beach. Usually a stunning stretched of snow white sand swirled witht he turquoise water it was dissapointing to see it at high tide. Then just a beach. still beautiful and clean white sand and turquoise water but no way as amazing. Damo took some ace group photos of us doing stupid things. Also apparently the tradition of Powerplay is Sumo Wrestling championships. Given that ... read more

Well set off this morning for my 2 night sailing adventure (tho no sailing involved...Powerplay is a catamaran with no sail) The boat is totally geared towards divers so i'll be able to put my certification to good use. Really nice group of people on the boat so should be a good trip. The crew are ace too; Anika is the diving instructor, Simon the skipper and Damo the hostee...in charge of food and general happiness! We had our first dive today in Blue Pearl Bay off Hayman Island, it was amazing. Saw a huge Mouri wrasse called Elvis! felt really comfortable down there and had so much fun. The Sunset was beautiful, so bright and since it was reflected on the water the whole ocean looked orange! Think I really am in paradise!... read more

Days 121-124 After an overnight bus we arrived in Airlie Beach about 9. We couldn't check in until 3, which was so annoying as all we wanted to do was sleep! So, we checked out the town, had breakfast and made our way to the lagoon, which was really nice and tried to get some kip. You can't swim in the sea here because there are lots of dangerous jellyfish so the nice government of Australia make lagoons for people to swim in. You wouldn't get that in Blighty! Once we checked in we had another wander and popped into a shop to LOOK at some aborigonal paintings and ended up buying a custom painted top notch 4 ft didgeridoo! The guy caught us while we were too tired to say no! Should be good though! ... read more

Hi readers! Our next stop was Airlie beach, from here we did our trip around the Whitsundays. Airlie beach was a nice place, a few restaurants and good bars. We met up with our crew from Fraser Island on the first night and had a great time, us girls even sang karaoke! We recovered the next day and went and relaxed by the swimming area in Airlie (you can't swim in the water in the beaches up the east coast because there are box jellyfish which can kill you in a matter of minutes if you get stung!). After an early night we were all ready for our sailing trip. The sailing trip, well what can I say, its a long story... The Whitsundays are a group of over 70 islands on the east coast and ... read more

Hey! We are currently in Mission Beach after travelling a few hours from our last stop in Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach was the stepping stone to the Whitsunday islands, an amazing array of untouched islands off the border which provided glorius views of beauty! The trip was only 2 nights and 3 days but we pretty much all agreed that we could easily do it again and if i was in Oz for longer i would definetly have tried for a job for a couple of weeks! We started off by meeting the crew and the other passengers. It was a 26 man boat and this time there were only 7 of us. However, within 30 minutes 3 of the 4 crew knew my name and we were well on the way! ;-) We were on ... read more

The prospect of spending three full days living on a boat was something i found pretty interesting and the fact that it was a small boat with only 12 other passengers, one of whom i already knew made this an attractive prospect. The scenary while sailing the whitsundays is really beautiful and as someone who loves great scenary it was something i took to straight away. One of the things i also love about being on boats are when you swim in the sea after diving off a boat, i find this far more interesting than just going into the sea from the beach, so when it was time to go for a swim i was well into this. One problem though is that in the area at this time of year there is a danger ... read more

Hello there! Kristen and I got back from our 2 nights, 3 days sailing tour of the Whitsunday Islands yesterday. We had a fabulous time. What made it even more wonderful, was that our friends from Fraser Island were with us too! There were 83 of us in total who participated in this tour. We were split into 2 groups, half sailed on a cadamaran (??? I swear my spelling has become atrocious since I've been out of school) named Cora and the other half sailed on a cadamaran named the Pride of Airlie. Kristen and I, along with Tom (our 18 yr old Flying Dingo brother from the camping trip) and the Swedes we met at Fraser--Emelie 19, Ebba 19, Sanna 21, Jenny 21, Jennifer 21, and Philip 20-- were all on the Pride of ... read more
