We flew down from Cairns to Brisbane and picked up our hire car at the airport having decided not to stay in Brisbane. A couple of hours later and the sat nav brought us to the address of our hostel in Noosa that we had booked a few days earlier. Only there is no sign of the hostel, no board advertising its name, just a for sale sign outside of what looked like a shut up private residence. Thinking we had been done we drove to the local information centre who thought they had picked someone up for a tour there some days earlier. They tried the phone we had on our reservation, but it was not answering. Luckily after a few minutes the owner relised he had a missed call and rang back the ... read more

G'day from Noosa. Since we last left a blog we have done many more exciting things. Once we had completed our sailing trip we boarded a 12 hour bus journey south to Hervey Bay - a long drive but just tried to sleep the best we could. We picked up a 4 wheel drive,, all our camping gear and supplies and headed for the barge boat over to Fraser Island! The island is the only place in the world where rain forest grows in the sand - so all the tracks on the island are sand as it is all national park - no roads - so your 4 wheeling on the beaches and through the rain forest. The 1st day we headed over the the main large (74 mile) beach through the inland tracks and ... read more

Donc, ils ... read more

Hey everyone After a short coach journey i arrived in Noosa, which is on the 'Sunshine Coast' and obviously sods law meant that the first two days i was there it did nothing but Rain!!!! I spent the first day having a quick look around the area and then i met up with some Canadians i had met in Mission Beach and we all went to the cinemas to see 'Australia' which was kind of ironic but i really enjoyed it and the Aussie cinemas are really comfortable, the next day i went for a walk around the Noosa National Park, along the coastline you were meant to be able to see wild dolphins but i had no such luck but the scenery was stunning, i walked past a point called hells gates and a little ... read more

27th - 1st December 2008 - Noosa: We arrived in Noosa on Thursday evening under a cloud of uncertainty regarding our onward flights to Bangkok and beyond. After a 2 hour shuttle we arrive in Noosa greeted by Dad and Matty and head over to the North Shore. The resort was set in a national park so was very beautiful surroundings with tame kangaroo's bouncing around and joining us at our table outside our room everytime a meal was on offer. On Friday we did a walk around Noosa heads to the fairy pools. THese little pools were rock pools where you could swim with a majestic view of the Pacific ocean. Lush!! We made plenty of noise at the local RSL on Friday night supporting the Pheonix to a stellar victory. The wedding on Saturday ... read more

Noosa is a slightly upmarket tourist area, very chilled out. Did some walking around the national park where we saw a koala and had a day out to eumundi markets where we got lots of free samples. The markets were really big and had lots of different cool stuff on offer. Noosa was really nice and relaxing and the hostel was beautiful, it was a really old world heritage listed building. Next stop brisbane.... read more

Hello everyone once again, I hope you are all well, as I am currently having a fantastic time making my way up the East coast of Australia. Since leaving the Thomas family in Sydney I first stopped in Byron Bay. Here I met up with a group of guys I met in Sydney. Byron Bay was just brilliant, we drunk far too much goon (boxed white wine) and suffered a serious bout of memory loss and drunkeness! Several nights of this with drinking games in the hostel, making up songs such as "consume the goon" and making lots of friends was followed by days on the beach playing footie and surfing. I tried once again to do a sky dive but unfortunately some low pressure started to move in and it got cancelled. I guess i'm ... read more

I woke up feeling like I was melting. The sun was beaming down right through the curtains even though it was only 7am. Pleased that we had an air conned cabin I got up and turned it to full. When I went outside I saw the sun was already high up in the sky and the heat felt more like midday than early morning. I guess that’s the trade off for it getting dark early. We’d been planning on having a quick stop at Surfers Paradise, but changed our minds when we saw that the traffic was manic and there were queues for every parking spot. The high rise buildings and LA feel of the place didn’t do anything for us, although we were impressed by how spotlessly clean and tidy the streets were. We decided ... read more

We decided to head straight to Noosa after Byron Bay and skip the usual backpacker stops of Surfers Paradise and Brisbane as we'd heard mixed reports about them and expected they would be more of the same. Noosa is in Queensland, the most tropical state of Australia, and is a another fairly mundane beach town. It seems to cater for a more upmarket crowd but still has a healthy backpacker scene. We stayed in a place called Koalas which has a chain of hostels up the coast and they also organise a lot of trips. They are a backpacker institution and are very popular and always busy. This may be why they feel they can get away with shoddy service and accommodation. Our room was damp and smelt of urine. On our first night we decided ... read more

The moment I see my hostel at the top of a hill, I’m already in love with this town. I arrived mid afternoon and checked into the Halse Lodge, which is a former Queensland farm house, similar to those from the southern United States. The first thing I do when I check in is sign up for a surf lesson with Merrick’s Noosa Learn-to-Surf. For $45 I get a two-hour surf lesson and two free hours with a kayak. I had only booked two nights, so I was going to make the most of it. Noosa is divided into several sections, but the hostel is in Noosa Heads. Noosa Heads is a little ritzier than the rest of town and the main street is filled with sidewalk cafes and clothing boutiques. Within my first two hours ... read more
