Today was gorgeous so we decided to go to the beach again and actually go swim in the ocean this time! We walked along the same way we had before and found a couple of really tiny sand crabs. Chris managed to pick one up but it scurried off soon after. They were fast little critters! As we were walking to the more populated beach area to watch some of the surfers a group of Australian Pelicans landed not too far away from us. They were huge and allowed us to get very close to them. A guy near by was feeding them some of his fish bait so we also got to see them eat. They were beautiful birds! The water was surprisingly warm! I guess since it's around a constant 70 degrees there the ... read more

Today we woke up very early since we had gone to bed early. We were starving and there wasn't much food in the apartment....which he shares with two Ambrose students and an Australian girl.....so we decided to walk down to a bakery about a 10 min. walk away. It was definitely a lot colder than Iowa since it was their winter season, but it was still great weather. and the sunrise was gorgeous! On our walk I got to see all the different architecture and the gardens in people's front lawns were very exotic. I loved all the tropical plants! When we got back to the apartment we knew it was going to be a day with good weather so Chris decided he'd take me to the beach. We caught the bus from his campus to ... read more

My first day in Australia! I got to the Brisbane airport around 7AM on Wednesday after leaving LA at 11:45PM Monday for a 13 hour flight...which I could only sleep about an hour because I was too excited! It's so weird thinking that for me there was no August 12th! It took me about 3 days to get over my jet lag, it was very strange being 15 hours ahead! Chris meet me at the airport and we took a shuttle to his apartments located about a 5 min. walk away from his campus in Sippy Downs. The shuttle ride was an hour and a half but I had a blast looking at all the scenery...I LOVED all the palm trees....and riding on the wrong side of the road. That I never got over. When we ... read more

It was a three hour flight to New Zeland and then a three hour flight to Australia. We got picked up and then drove about an hour and a half from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast. We stayed at Mooloolaba Backpackers. There is not much to say about this one...it was stinky and dirty. I was very homesick while we were there. I would get waves where I would barely be able to hold back tears. Luckily we spent our time there finding an apartment and were able to move out within 4 days. The upside to this Hostel is that we met alot of great people and now we have FRIENDS...ha ha. ... read more

So we found a place to live. yay. I would not have entertained the thought of this place if it was in Ottawa due to the fact that it is a highrise and it is UPTOWN..da da da. but with that said this town is so small I don't think it matters where you live and the apartment is great. 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms Washer and Dryer in the apartment Heated outdoor pool Hot tub Sauna. The people here are great and everything is really nice...that goes for the apartment complex and the city on a whole. Did I mention they give change on the bus here....amazing.... read more

As I copped a bit of flack on the delay in posting my last entry, I figured I would make up for it and post another from the Sunshine Coast. Yes ... I am pleased to say, it is the Sunsine Coast this time - the rains having headed south for Sydney (quite ironic really!!) The bad news is that the run off from the rivers around the Sunshine Coast area has left the beaches with an uninviting brown tinge, and the seas are still fairly rough, although getting better each day. Now ... a few things which I forgot to include in the last post. The JGG is going great ... although it has had a rather unpleasant fishy smell. I bought some nice local prawns in northern NSW and took them along to my ... read more
