It's an early start because we are due to check out of the apartment at 10am and we are being picked up at 7.30am to take an early morning trip down the Daintree river looking for crocodiles! We need to check out and load up the car before we go. So far our hunt for native wildlife has found, kangaroos, trap door, funnel web and huntsman spiders, frogs, snakes, barramundi fish, sting rays, box jelly fish, snakes, turtles, bats and various bir... read more

Morning everyone, well we have had 11 hours of solid sleep, so now feeling great, yesterday we got off to an early start and was picked up by a friendly Aussie chap called Pete and another couple from Bolton, Ashley and Rob Joined us. We set off to explore the DAINTREE Rainforest. This is the only place in the world where two natural World Heritage listed areas, The DAINTREE Rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef exist side by side forming one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. The rainforest is the oldest living rainforest in the world at 160 million years. First we went to the Mossman Gorge where we wandered through the forest, saw Brush Turkeys, the males build enormous leaf and dirt mounds which are used as an incubator. Their tails are a ... read more

28thOctober 2012 Woke up to another beautiful, hot day and the girls could not resist a morning dip in the pool after breakfast. Caught up on some house-keeping and went into Cooktown for some sight-seeing. Decided to head north via the Battle Camp Road. The map stated this was a gravel road but the corrugations were shocking. The dust holes did not help and to top it off, there was a bicycle race on. Stopped at Isabella Falls for lunch and we had a legless visitor. Sasha spotted a thin, but long snake munching on a lizard. Don’t know what type of snake but it was at least 1.5m long and brown. When it was still, it looked like a tree branch. Continued on this shocking, dusty dirt road until we came across the Hann Roadhouse. ... read more

Woke up to the serenity of the beautiful rainforest. This campsite was epic. We experienced accomodation with adventure. This park included an educational talk on salt water crocodiles. We also met "Doris", the salt water crocodile residing at the Lync Haven Rainforest Motel. We also met red kangaroos and wallabies which the girls enjoyed feeding. The place was truly a sanctuary and a place that I would definitely visit again. Thankyou Lync Haven for a wonderful stay. We had an amazing journey along the Daintree Coast. We drove past through the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal, Ayton, Rossville, Helenvale and on to Cooktown. Along the way we stopped at the famous Lion's Den Hotel in Helenvale. We stopped for lunch at the popular Emmagen Creek. There was some really steep inclines and descents through the Donavan ... read more

Drove past Port Douglas (a beautiful town), reminds me of Noosa, Mossman and on to Cape Tribulation. The coastal drive was amazing. We had a scenic drive from Cape Tribulation to the Daintree Ferry. A blue sky and sunshine greeted us this morning and we took the opportunity for another walk on the beach before we left the campgrounds. We had many sights to see so off we went beginning at Cape Tribulation and the beach there was no less impressive; blue water and white sand surrounded by palms. From there we worked our way back down towards the ferry and stopped off at more stunning beaches and strolled on boardwalks that took us through different sections of the dense rainforests that engulf the area. This needs to be seen to be believed. The fragile ecosystems could entice you for hours on end. After working up a sweat we stopped in at the Daintree Icecream Company and the grounds were impeccable, the homemade tropical fruit icecream even better. This particular company ... read more

First stop today was The Coffee Works to use our free entry passes that we scored this time last week at the same venue.Coffee and chocolate overload but as they say too much is never enough. At midday we headed north-east and stopped at Kuranda which is an alternative little pocket of the world on the way through to Cairns. No time for a major look around but we’ll save this spot for another day. From there we continued on the incline through some fabulous surroundings before getting onto Captain Cook Highway for the north bound journey to Mossman. This stretch of road is rated as one of the most picturesque in Australia and it was plain as day to see with tropical mountains on the left and we were flanked by the ocean on the ... read more
