Well maybe if you're a Queenslander, but not if you're British and have come on holiday to find the Sun!!! We have not had a very successful 72 hours due the appalling weather. On Tuesday we started out in our little campervan full of hope and expectation even though it was looking a bit cloudy. We drove north up the coast towards Port Douglas, stopping at Yorkeys Knob (yes, we took the photos yorkie!) but the views were not great due to the overcast skies and very choppy water. We eventually arrived in Port Douglas after a lovely drive (clinging to the cliff edge in some places - god help me in New Zealand!) to be met with rain. We overnighted on a nice site outside of Port Douglas where the campervan was still a novelty ... read more

With the wedding a fresh happy memory it was time to get on with the travelling. Time to explore the Cairns area some more. Our first jaunt was to the nearby Sky Rail attraction. This is a cable car that runs out across the rainforest 8km (5 miles) to the small town of Kununda. We were going with our grooms women Gayle and Vics though they had opted to walk to the Sky Rail terminal from Palm Cove as their brochure had assured them it was about a 10 minute walk. As we were going from Ellis Beach we took Petunia. We passed them on the road coming out of Palm Cove but as we were aren’t insured to carry more than three people we couldn’t pick them up and after all it is only a ... read more

We spent the day today driving up the east coast from Cairns along the coastal road, where we stopped to check out all the beaches the Ciarns is famous for including the stunning Trinity beach where some of the beach villas and their settings where stunning. The coastal road meandered along the coast, cutting in and winding up through world heritage listed tropical rainforest and made for an awesome drive with some stunning scenery. We stopped in Port Douglas in the early afternoon where we had some lunch before returniing back to base in Cairns. ... read more

We hired a car for the day from Cairns and went on a little trip. First we went to a Crocodile Farm having failed to see any in the wild. We saw lots of Crocs on a boat ride around their lagoon including one that attacked the boat and smashed one of the windows. In the afternoon we went on to the Daintree National Park where we did a forest walk and went for a swim in the Mossman Gorge.... read more

We know it has been a long time since we have written one of these, but we have good reason - we were in the wilds of Australia. Well not really, but we were busy communing with the animals at the Daintree Mangroves Wildlife Sanctuary. We have had quite an exciting time in the last two weeks WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) with a bunch of animals (and some wildlife too). The Sanctuary was built by the owners Gil and Donna Talbot over the last four years and you wouldn't believe the amount of work they have put into it. They have something like 500 animals (including many types of birds, reptiles, mammals and marsupials). All of the animals are native to Australia which was great for us because we were able to see so ... read more
