Well....e-tickets! We picked up the "tickets" today. And they're not really tickets but itinerary print outs. It seems a token gestures to remind us of the work the travel agent has done, but nonetheless we have them and she helped us out. It has also made it seem very real - only about a week to go! Seems the scale of the trip might have dawned on Deaks. He came down from bed last night crying and worried that the plane might drop out of the sky into the ocean. Poor little bloke. We don't even watch the news with the kids but they hear about things. "Singapore airlines is one of the best in the world" I say. "you've got more chance of being hit by a car or getting sick from a bad potato!" ... read more

So just a few short weeks now until we fly out of Australia on our "yet to be named" 12 month trip. We thought of a great name for the trip about 4 months ago and we can't remember for the life of us what it actually was.... So hopefully it will come flooding back sometime soon. I've got lists upon list upon lists around the house and work at the moment. That would be my anal retentive Virgo gene coming out in me. But hey it pays to be organised when you are packing up your life for 12 months and hitting the road. I've got packing lists, to do lists, and then items on the to do list have sub to do lists. But we are both progressing through them well. It's incredible how ... read more

CSIRO Divisional mergers (Greg) and publication of the Qld Health, Chief Health Officer's report (Catherine). Everyone is excited though. Our kids, Alex (currently in Sydney) and Elise (currently in London) sent their shared excitement. Itinerants all! Bill will set off from Brussels within hours, and Wendell from NYC. Please let us know if you would rather not follow this blog.... read more

Hey there dudes! My first blog entry and I'm not even on the road yet! Well it's about 10 days til I leave for my sojourn and I am very excited. Note the blog title - he he - all my blogs will be a song name or lyric that has to do with my trip so hopefully I can come up with some gooduns!! It has only just hit me this week that I am actually going soon so I am now in a frenzied rush trying to arrange everything. I have lists baby, and I am crossing things off at a rapid rate. Ok, so I got to the hotel in Rainbow Beach called Pippies. There were these two mad Dutch girls at the bus stop who worked for Pippies and they showed me the 50 metre straight walk to the hostel. In the front part as soon as you walk in there’s a little lawn with some hammocks and a couple of people were milling around enjoying the sunshine. Everyone was so friendly and within no time one of the Dutch girls was cutting my hair for $5.00 and I was totally immersed in chat and giggles. Then, just as I thought the day couldn’t possibly get any better, six half naked, well built, brown Brummie lads walked in, returning from Fraser Island, and suddenly the day was complete! Aah! Feeling completely content and with all traces of ... read more
