I had an early start today to head out to Fogg Dam, one of the premier birding sites in the Darwin area, about 60km from the city. Naturally, there is no way whatsoever to get there without a car. This is Darwin after all. A couple of things I wanted to me room yesterday are that it's really dry here, really dry. The forests are like tinder. Very different to anywhere else on the trip and to anywhere else I will be going this trip. I'm also finding bird identifications really tricky! I've birded WA and Queensland before but even so I'm finding it takes a lot of work to get stuff IDed here. I found it much easier in Malaysia. Thrilling and lets you realise why you need to stay in the boat!!! Watched some guys fishing with big crocs around at a river crossing....got to have marbles for brains... We have also seen a stack of Aboriginal art and a few pretty specky waterfalls and rock pools.... ........at 800 shots on the digi camera we are looking to bore ... read more

Margie will get a sim over there. Got the international driving permit sorted, Skipper ticket and VHF ticket sorted (lots of study, stress and sibling competition for those!!) - ... read more
