Day Thirteen The thirteenth day of our thirteen-to-thirteen trip. What a rippa! We were up at 5.30am to beat the sun and make it out to the Devils Marbles in time for the sunrise. The Marbles are about 30km from Wycliffe Well, so we were there at around 6. These rock formations are much more vast that we were expecting and as the sun began to appear we were all gob-smacked at their beauty and size. The rocks apparently began as squares or rectangles of granite, but time and wind and weather have eroded them, so they now resemble marbles stacked on top of one another. Of course they are not all perfectly round, and there are great stacks of them. Many have split, one in particular looked like an Easter egg split in two. It ... read more

We made our way from The Creek to Alice stopping of at the Devils marbles where we had a great time running all over them and finding caves and cracks that some of us could fit through and some of us couldn’t. We had and over night road side stop with the Lemos and met some new friends around the campfire. ... read more

Sunday morning and yes we all went to a market (can’t get homesick that way). Todd Street Mall is transformed into a market with imported, craft, veggies and Aboriginal Art. Had lunch at Botanical Gardens - lots of wattles, very dry. Saw Anzac Hill, views all over Alice. Had an easy afternoon by the pool - kids’ choice instead of Desert Park. Went to Post Office first thing to collect replacement spas for kids’ swags. Got yoga matting to replace cardboard on rear windscreen. Filled up fuel and headed North. Went past Tropic of Capricorn marker. Ti Tree for lunch. Stopped at Wycliffe Well, the UFO capital. Arrived at Devils Marbles at 4pm and it was already busy. Indigenous Ranger talk and watched a DVD. Found out how to find a Witchetty Grub (Alex is psyching ... read more

Drive form Tennants Creek, wake up after a great sleep in the swag which is basically a rolled out sleeping bag, your head is exposed so a dingo could come and bite the head of you if it want to, falling asleep looking up at the stars is just class. Leave Tennants Creek and head for Alice Spring, stopping at the Devils Marbles on the way and also Wycliffe which is UFO centre of Oz - the most sightings of UFO's have been reported here-bit of a tourist scam really. Stopped at Aileron on the way which was weird as when we stopped there were birds just falling from the sky dying - it turned out they were been poisoned as they pick Kangaroo's eyes out and kill them. Arrive in Alice Springs after roughly a ... read more

Hello and welcome to one of my more exciting blogs.. although, be prepared as I introduce you to scary wolf creek men, dead kangaroos, cyclones and billions of flies!! …Here goes the outback..! Now, how on earth did we get involved on this crazy journey across Australia I hear you ask??! Well, that’s the joy of traveling with an open mind and without a plan!! I met the boys, Oscar (Sweedish), Matteo and Lorenzo (Italian), a couple of months ago back in Byron, they were friends with one of our housemates and they rocked up to our house in a big red jeep and slept in tents in our garden! On that first night we all went out and I randomly (and maybe slightly drunkenly) arranged for me and gem to drive through the outback with ... read more

We drove from Alice Springs to Devils Marbles, (about 100km from Tennant Creek) and arrived about 3pm. When we pulled into the camp site we were surprised to see so many vans already set up for the night. There would have been 15 or more when we got there. The place is a conservation park, just has a long drop toilet. Didn’t realise until after we setup that it was also a Toyota Convention, except someone forgot to tell Toyota. The first 8 vans were towed by Toyota Prados or Landcruisers. The guys exchanged stories on their cars for a while. Bruce got into Sales mode and told the folks next door all about the enhancements to the car. Then they got talking about broadband on the road, and Bruce was in his element. By the ... read more

We've also done a walk through the Western McDonnell Ranges to Stanley Chasm. Devils Marbles are in the middle of nowhere, its wierd to see places like that and Ayres Rock because they seem to have come from nowhere, they're just there. We stopped at a place called Banka Banka, it was just a campsite but the stars were amazing, we had a really good fire and marshmellows. ... read more

Dear Blog, After an amazing sleep on a bunk, in a room with no bugs, I had a boring day just doing my washing, going on the internet, catching up on some reading etc. Pure Bliss. In the evening I met up with Michelene again and we went out for tea, and then we checked out a local music festival (which was actually a bit rubbish-dodgy local bands) before heading back to the hostel. The next day, it was back to the early starts ready to begin another 3 day tour from Darwin to Alice Springs. It didn't start out well, as the tour guide was over an hour late to pick us up, and then he just continued to be totally disorganised for the rest of the trip. I was one of the last to ... read more

Hi everyone! So the blogs aren't as frequent now hey! This ones abit late but with all the moving about i've been doing it hard to update often........................... So at this point we are in Alice Springs........ the campervan has been returned so we are car-less and clueless!!!!! We have no idea where to go next or when. There is not that much to do in Alice Springs and there are plenty of Aboriginals about who I must say intimidate me slightly!!!! They just stand there in the street and shout!!!! And they smell!!!! So after a group discussion the plan was to head north to Darwin as near there (bearing in mind near in Oz is 3-4hr drive!!!) was a beautiful "must see" National Park called Kakadu. We rented a car- "the Baked Bean".............................. the ... read more
