10 04 2010 Another lovely day. We caught the ferry to Turonga zoo. The star of the show was Mr Shuffles the baby elephant and the snow leopards. The photos say it all. We caught a cable car to the top part of the zoo and were rewarded with a lovely view. In the evening we went to the IMAX cinema and watched avater in 3D. Great film which we loved. Highly recommended. Apparently biggest IMAX screen in the world.... read more

So this is once again our last day in Sydney. However we thought this 2 days ago when we tried to leave! Before this drama we shall fill u in on our New Year celebrations. We went to Bradleys Head which is on the harbour front on the opposite side to the Opera House. We had amazing views of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Got there at 9am, only 30 ish ppl, some who had put up tents and blankets the night before. It drizzled in the morning, so that was nice to spend it under our umbrellas. In the afternoon the weather cleared up and the sun came out and then it was too hot. More ppl arrived with picnics and blankets and gradually the grassy areas were all gone under ppl. Happy christmas to all those snowmen and snowwomen in England:) We were in Mudgee for christmas which is 4hrs drive inland from Sydney with Carina's family. We were all ready for our first hot christmas to wake on Christmas morning to find it drizzling.....and it drizzled all day!!!! Auntie Dolores was exstatic it was raining as it rained 51ml and it hasnt been that heavy since April. We, on the other hand, werent quite so happy....but never the less it was lovely to spend the day with family. Carina was once again doing as the locals do, and went swimming as its supposed to be hot in OZ on christmas day (I lasted about 5mins, enough for photos and to prove a point!) Russ was taking on Australia in Monopoly....which he drew. We had a traditional ... read more

We got up at 5:30am to watch our cruise into Sydney Harbor. It is such a grand entry past the “Heads,” which stand sentry at the entrance from the sea. Captain Cook missed this narrow opening and ended up in Botany Bay during his explorations of Australia. Sydneysiders John and Dawn picked us up and took us sightseeing through the suburbs and on up to the northern beaches. Palm Beach is a rather posh area of town with the ocean on one side and the Hawkesbury River on the other. It is a great boating area. After a fine lunch we took a ferry ride to several of the more remote communities hugging the sides of the river. We stopped for a visit with two of their daughters, Monica and Catherine and four grandchildren. Although all ... read more

Our last leg was from Port Stephens to Sydney - supposed to be good northerlies all day - we registered "0" on the wind guage for most of the day - until we came through the Heads into Sydney Harbour when the wind whooshed up...doh! Sie betreiben hier ... read more

A new city, a new country, a new continent. We aren't going to lie to you, hearing English again, recognising all the fruit and veg on sale and understanding a menu isn't something we have been overly excited about. There has been something both fun and terrifying about being in places where you really are an outsider and it almost feels as if our 'travelling' has been put on hold. But we are sure we are just readjusting to being proactive within a community - rather than just allowing situations to happen - and that once we are over our jetlag, these hardy travellers will bounce back with some adentures to share! Because we have been here for a week we have tried to condense everything to keep it from being too long. Needless to say ... read more

G'day Headers! I am writing to you from 10,0090 miles and 15 time zones away. And I can recall each painful mile all too well. We flew into Sydney at about 8:30 Monday Morning (Around 4:30pm on Sunday in Boston) marking the conclusion to a brutal 14 hour plane ride, which came after four boresome hours in the San Francisco International Airport, which we arrived at after a brisk six hour jaunt from Boston. However, the truly fun part was not the twenty total hours of flying. No, the truly fun part was the twenty total hours of flying, with the flu! Indeed, a mere two hours before arriving at Logan Airport, I was diagnosed as having influenza by the lovely doctors of the Pediatric Associates of Greater Salem! Many, many thanks to Wesley York, who ... read more
