Finally the day has come! Teary farewells and the champagne accompanied transfer to the airport are long forgotten as the excitement kicks in. Tickets & bags checked - check. Passports stamped - check. Carry-on scanned - hmmm. So my dear husband now referred to as PL has no idea of carry-on restrictions and me in my ever frantic lead up didn't even think to broach the subject. My carry-on scans through, no problem, but PL's is another story - here goes... So PL has no idea of the liquid limits on international flights and has packed his entire toiletry bag in his carry-on luggage. Following scanning, security proceed to confiscate shaving cream, hair gel and other random 'beautifying' products... The bag is then re-scanned only to be ushered for a secondary search. The guy searches PL's ... read more

Summary: Sydney to Singapore Read more... I am finally here at Sydney Airport, Kingsford smith. After checking in I drag myself towards the departure gates of Terminal 1, it was then that I realised that I didn't have any cash for the taxi when I got to Singapore. I roll up to a Travel Lex, the rate that they offer me to buy AUD for Thai Baht and Singapore Dollar is 24 and 1.03 respectively, I look at him in amazement, the rate for Thai Baht vs AUD is 30 to 1 and the rate for SGD to AUD is 1.25 to think that they almost make 20% is interesting to say the least. Expensive to say the least, anyway I am going to try my luck in Singapore. I guess worse comes to worse I'll ... read more

Monday 21st May 2012 – Left Canberra yesterday afternoon – seems like days ago! Caught a 5:00 pm flight to Sydney, then boarded the Emirates A380-800 with hundreds of others all going to Dubai. After leaving Sydney, we flew south of Broken Hill, to just south of Whyalla (across the top of Spencer Gulf) before starting to track a more northerly course after overflying Ceduna. By 23:35 Eastern Standard Time, we were 1,053 km from Sydney, travelling at 916 kph (Mach 0.84). We travelled east of Meekathara, south of Uluru, south of Port Headland. At 07:10 Eastern Standard Time, we were flying over Colombo. At 11:10 Eastern Standard time on Monday 21/5/2012, we arrived in Dubai, after flying 5,542 miles (about 9,000 km). The flight was very long and tiring. As I write thi... read more

Sat bolt upright on the plane from perth to sydney (that will teach me sitting at the back of the plane), had about 30 sleeps. Productive morning at the airport, got a few chores out the way, now to stay awake till i can check my luggage in. Guns and Roses pumping my eardrums full of wakefulness, at least the music is elicting a normal response for me, legs and feet tapping away, I should be ok!... read more

In order to preserve their unblemished record Virgin cancelled my flight and offered me one that left shortly after dawn or one that arrived in Sin City minutes before the plane to Singapore departs so I opted for the only sensible course and so I was up before the sparrows for the drive to town for the taxi to the airport. So far so good, through the security check, shoes set off the alarm, bags scanned for explosives, flight to Sin City and a mere seven and a half hours to kill in terminal X. I wandered across to the Qantas terminal, through security again, shoes, beep, damn! on to the transfer lounge and was told to go out again and check my bag at gate 25. Gate 25 tell me that I can't check in ... read more

Beza It"s like I've died and gone to heaven, except way better! Today started off badly, I was upset seeing as I burnt my face the night before and had to put this cream on it. I soon got over it because we had heard back from the travel agent saying that our upgrade to first class had been approved, wich is enough to put a smile on anyones face, even my hidiously burnt one. So we went to the Canberra airport and I managed to get a hug from my brother along with a request for gum, lots of gum. Whike heading into the qantas lougne, we were informed that there was no apparent upgrade on our details and that we would have to take things up with sydney airport. So after a very brief ... read more
