The Bridge Climb Sydney’s Harbor Bridge is the equivalent to our Golden Gate Bridge in terms of fame and its symbolic value to the country. It is the world’s largest (but not longest) steel arch bridge built throughout the 1920s and opening in March of 1932. And of course keeping with the theme of all things dangerous and Australian, the city of Sydney allows people to climb the Harbor Bridge, which incidentally is held together by about six million little rivets that seem to have a propensity for falling into the Harbor. To be clear, they don’t simply allow people to walk across the bridge on a pedestrian sidewalk. But they actually let people hike up the steel girders that form the arch of the bridge, cross over the bridge at the top and walk down ... read more

The Bondi Girls: Anna, Jess, Nadine and Will decided to have a house warming party for their new place in Bondi, and the theme was Bad Taste. Check out the photos and you'll know exactly what I mean! We found the most fantastic retro shop, and I picked up a lovely little shirt with lacy frills and big flowers, snails and bees on it - delightful - finished off with a white lacey hat and I was the bell of the ball, well, I would have been, had I not been upstaged royally by Jess and Joseph...grrr x... read more

Ah, the famed beach of Bondi… we had to go see what the fuss is all about. The day we went, we actually turned the trip into a complete Bondi Experience, in that we also visited a Bondi exhibition at the Museum of Sydney, and took in a short film festival visit later on in the day which is being held at Bondi Pavilions. The exhibition was brilliant. It’s a whole large floor of the museum which has been dedicated to the history of beach life in Sydney, using films from the 50s & 60s (which were really funny - a bit like a cross between Carry On flicks and old British Public Information videos), amazing photography and real life used postcards from various periods in time which had been donated by members of the public. ... read more

Whilst in Sydney some of our friends from home came out to visit us. Mark's friends Aussie and Neil joined him and Rach came out to see Lorna. Although some sightseeing was done, the main objective of their visit seemed to be to party and much alcohol was consumed by all. We did manage to take them to Bondi Beach and Manly although the weather wasn't as hot and sunny as it should have been. At one point Rach and Lorna were sat on Manly beach in jumpers! Mark and the boys also made it to Canberra for a few days where they soaked up some culture as well as some beers. On the 26th January Australia Day was celebrated to the full. After drinking lots of Tooheys lager we all got a free Australian Flag ... read more

Well here’s our latest update before we leave Sydney to head off on the next part of our journey around Australia. We both finished up work on 23rd December after 5 enjoyable months living and working here, it’s been a great experience and we’re definitely going to miss the Sydney lifestyle and the friends we’ve made here. We were both fortunate enough to work more than the 3 month limit on travelling visa’s as we acquired new temporary business visas through Laura’s work. So it was a relief not to have to find work for the final month leading up to Christmas. Sydney has got so much more busy as the summer has approached, Bondi was pretty quiet when we arrived in August but now it’s heaving every day and night, Backpackers everywhere. The heat has ... read more

The guesthouse in Phuket wasn't the best. The room was massive though and full of little guests! I was exploring around the door and Hannah said "Get out, just get out!!" so I legged it and went back to see why as she was still speechless and there was a massive spider on the door! It was about the size of my hand and so big I couldn’t fit it into the glass to put it outside!! So we had to call the Thai man who found it very funny, “Oh spider” until he saw the size of it and had to eventually kill it to get it outside! This made me sad but it think it might have been one that bit you so hey ho! Had an awful nights sleep as me and Hannah ... read more

Phew! Thankfully we all got through New Year's day just about alive. With the temperature raising to 45 degrees with serious hangovers, it was touch and go for a while for Lee, Sar and Debs. It has to be said that whilst 3 of us were dying on the sofa, Spen was sat outside in the burning sunshine, beer in hand. The phrase mad dogs and English men springs to mind... Anyway, we are all raring to go on the 2nd Jan, with the weather turning a lot cooler (22) and rain overnight, we decide a bracing sea walk is the ticket, so head to Bronte and walk the 6km round trip to Bondi beach. Lovely coastal walk, watching the swimmers, surfers, fishermen en route. Walk along Bondi beach and promonade which is really quiet for ... read more

Back and Baking Happy 2006! We just got back from our fabulous South Australia trip this afternoon. We had a crazy, adventurous and fun time blazing trails all over the southern bit of Australia. My plan is to post three post-event blogs over the course of this week - - one for each location we visited. However, I have a personal rule of not typing, or being near anything that emits even the slightest bit of heat, when the temperature is over 100. And since it was 112 today here in Sydney, and hit 117 yesterday back in Adelaide, AND as I sit here at 9pm typing on my furnace/laptop it is 104, I’m well beyond my tolerance. Just to be clear (based on personal experience) that is hot enough to make your flip-flops begin to ... read more
