Suitcases packed up again ready to move tonight to St Ives to spend our final days in Australia with Greame and Wendy, Chris, Natalie and Mikey Pearse's home. Karin took us on a tour of the Northern suburbs and we saw the houses where Karen's daughter Denise lived and lives. Then a pretty drive up the coast passing beautiful beaches including Warriewood and Newport. We arrived at Avalon, where we had lunch with Alison Jones, on the veranda of her lovely home. Alison and Elaine knew each other from days in Sinoia (1968) and later when AlIson and Nick had their twin boys. Good to catch up and remember. Karen kindly drove us to to St Ives, where we met Graham, Chris and Natalie. Wendy and Mikey returend later. Our great nephew and nieces have grow ... read more

Saturday in Sydney with the Colfers After a relaxing breakfast we headed off to Rochelle's Mum and Dad's place for a day on the harbour. Geoff and Rosie live in a fantastic spot right on the waterfront near to Avalon. The Colfers (minus Tom who is on a 7 day army camp out in the Bush somewhere), the Colemans and Chris's brother Derek, arrived at Chez Colfers and then headed out into Pittwater Bay on Geoff;s wonderful and newly restored day boat "Pelican" which had the look of the African Queen about it. We headed out into the bay amongst the sailing boats and made our way over to one of the many beaches inside the bay area. After a quick lunch of Ozzie pies and 4X Gold we swam ashore to a wonderful tropical beach ... read more

Carla: We took a boat along the Mekong early on Monday morning. The boat took an hour or so to reach the border at Vinh Xuong where we officially left Vietnam. The riverside landscape was crammed with stilt and floating houses up to this point and the river was busy with traffic. The boat went for 2 minutes through ‘no-man’s river’ to the Cambodian border control which illustrated the contrast between the two countries immediately. The entrance to the place was along a rickety wooden bridge and a sandy path and the necessary paperwork was completed in a shady compound complete with Buddhist shrines and pergolas for the officers to work beneath. The Cambodian riverscape was straightaway different from the Vietnamese; there were few houses, lots of skinny white cattle being washed in the river and ... read more

... read more

It was lovely to see John and Mel and Jess again and I was there for Easter (yes I know that was ages ago now and that I am pretty useless at this but thanks for persevering with me and reading what I'm up to!) and for Jessie's 2nd birthday. Being in Sydney again was wonderful, I went to church and did all the Easter things, I ate lots of hot crossed buns. I met a girl I had met in New Zealand called Rachel and her boyfriend for dinner in the rain in Surry Hills, lovely food. I played with Jess, went to the beach, I went on a day trip to the Blue Mountains which was really good fun and we went on a couple of hikes. I walked the Manly Scenic Walk from ... read more

Ok, so I know Christmas is now a long time ago, but the internet in New Zealand is expensive so I haven't got around to writing this one.... but here it is! John, Mel and Jessica met me at the airport after I had lost 28 hours of my life, 14 flying and 14 time difference, stupid International Date Line. I was glad to be out of an aeroplane and on my way to a house rather than a hostel. Where John and Mel live is an hour out of the city called Avalon. It is so nice there, 10 minutes to a beach in any direction! Over the next couple of days I chilled out a bit, went into the city (YAY), helped wrap some of Jess's many many many Christmas presents, went Christmas shopping, ... read more

On ... read more

I cant believe how fast time has gone by! It feels like just yesterday I arrived in Sydney and Marti picked me up. Now my dad and sister are arriving in two days and I only have about three weeks left. I cant believe it. Its a sort of bittersweet moment. Im exited about getting home and seeing my friends and pets and my mom and that school is over. But I'm really sad to be leaving all this behind. I feel like I'm just really starting to get to know some of the kids here. I now have got good friends and I'm really bummed to be leaving them. I just love the whole Australian spirit too. Everyone is so nice and carefree. More than half the population surfs and so the whole lifestyle here ... read more
