Only 23 days to go! Heavily into the planning and pre-reading and just all round thinking about our trip and what we need to do to prepare for it. The broad itinerary is Singapore (1 day), Italy (7 days), Switzerland (2 days), France (8 days). We will pick up a car in Rome (we have been confirmed for a Mercedes A180 auto) and drop it off when we reach Paris. C.a.n.n.o.t. W.a.i.t!!! Finding this site has been good, I find reading blogs of people not dissimilar to me better than reading guidebooks and professional authors. Well the reason for the delay in the posts, I have changed my so called locked in itinerary once again, all for the sake of saving some money - ok so in reality that is a really good reason. I am now heading over a little later than planned and coming home a little later than planned. I am not to sure how the start of my holiday will be going now, still trying to work out some of the finer details. So based on my other update, take out the Trek America and time in LA and start from Boston or Canada. Possibly add in some time in Montreal and Quebec ... still working on the finer details. sooooo theres been a change of plan! i decided that the place i was orginially going to move into was actually not that nice and i thought to have a look around anyways. yesterday i went to see one house in the morning and i had got another one booked for the afternoon. HOWEVER.... josh had just moved into a town house 5 minutes from the beach and i went to see his room. So after a lot of shuffling, number crunching, and trying to make up my mind on what to see and that perfect balance of tours vs alone time.... the itinerary as of today *please note it is subject to change* LA - 4 days on my own In this time I want to see the farmers markets, WB tour, the hollywood sign, get to Santa Monica, and just wander around the city. So it begins, well continues really... I will go back to where all this started before I get to where I am. They say change is as good as a holiday, I modified it a little a change deserves a holiday and that is what I plan to do. so we've been in newcastle for 2 nights now and i must say its not how i expected! the beach looks nice although its kinda crazy atm so we've kind of stayed away from that a bit.... the town itself is not so pretty but hey who cares, im in australia! :D we went to the headphone disco at fannys on friday night which was pretty good, fully of pervy guys though so not so different from england! lol although the few people we've spoken to about that place did not really approve of that club so that might be why! after a crazy night friday (haha..), saturday we went and looked round a few places each. or i only went to one because i couldnt b bothard! but i think im just going to sign ... read more

We have been extremely busy planning all of the fun stuff like hostels on the beach, Nile Cruises, Abseiling, Skydiving, Bungy Jumping, shopping in London etc. We have been so busy that we have forgotten to organise the important things like finances, something to sleep on/in for a month on the safari and some warm clothes for camping in sub zero temps in Germany during Oktoberfest. I don't think this last one is as important as Al does as I am planning on being too pissed to find the tent let alone worry about getting into a sleeping bag rated at -5. So our weekend has been spent trying to organise some of the boring things we have put off, we headed off to the camping shops and found AL some very sexy long john thermals ... read more

Yow! February 12th 2011 : the day that Joeri swam in the Pacific Ocean !!! Yes, the day started very sunny and a clear blue sky. So of course Kevin and I had to go for a swim in the ocean. Fantastic. It felt so good that I was in a complete mood to spoil myself for breakfast : pancakes with strawberries and ice cream. Hmmmm After breakfast we returned to our hostel for a final swim there and off we went again with our car. Hunter Valley was our next destination. Known for it's vineyards. Along the way the weather changed and by the time we reached the Hunter Valley the blue sky had changed into a dark clouded sky and some showers. The countdown is on to losing friends, thanks to the iphone app "countdown" and the daily countdown status updates to departure. There are now 43 days 17 hours and 47 minutes until we take off, and about 11 hours until that is updated on facebook. After discussing the idea for about a week with Alison we dropped into the travel agent to discuss a potential africa / europe trip for a couple of months. Our travel agent had conveniently found us a very special price for a safari that was expiring in a week. Of course, we thoroughly discussed the idea and noted down the pro's and con's... not really, we had breakfast and went back to the travel agent and booked it in!!
