... dieser Ansicht sind die Aussies wohl nicht. Heute findet in Hamilton das Music and Food Festival statt.

...Medikamente bekommt man ... read more

Geo: -32.9264, 151.781Good old Newcastle, I have spent about 6 months in total there from my job, so I know it quite well, but there are still things I haven't seen or done and I was quite happy to be able to visit again, to see the old hostel that I called my second home.We left for Newcastle from Katoomba in a very foggy and rainy day; there was no point in sticking around so we headed towards Newcastle via putty road up to Singleton. It was a really nice road with some nice views; most of which were clouded over, but it also went through some windy roads and rocky landscapes. We arrived in to Newcastle by late afternoon and sneakily used the showers of the hostel I had previously stayed in. It was refreshing ... read more

This is a must! The previous 2 trips I did were with up to 3 friends, so we had the numbers to hire either a car or camper van, but this time around I was traveling up the coast just with another friend, so between the 2 of us, hiring cars for 4 weeks plus petrol were certainly out of the budget range... So the solution is pretty straight forward, grey hound bus! We found some passes called the hop on and off passes from Sydney to cairns at around $350 per person, meaning you can go in a single direction towards Cairns and get off at towns or cities the bus stops at and stay there for few days and once you are ready to be on the road again, then book yourself onto the ... read more

Hi all! We arrived at Newcastle (one of the oldest cities in Australia) late morning and found our hostel. It was a very grand building and reminded us of Harry Potter. We had a look around the hostel and then took the free shuttle bus to the shop to get some food. The weather was very wet that afternoon; luckily we had a dvd player in our room so watched 'The Hangover'. That evening the weather brightened up and we had read about carols in the park, which was next to our hostel, so we headed out to get in the Christmassy mood. We watched a church band play some modern songs and then we sang a few carols; it was nice but not quite as nice as being dressed in coats and scarves singing carols! ... read more

Well this is it folks! Just about to set off on an awfully big adventure-the grown-up gap year. The house is still in a chaotic state, the suitcases remain open, the boxes unpacked, Christmas upon us and the paperwork incomplete! I just love being prepared, it seems that the preparation time for a year out stretches and stretches. I just don't need snapped elastic or tempers! Follow us as we travel through China and then Mongolia and Russia, training all the way through from Shanghai to London. Not 'in training' but on the train. Once there we will sustain ourselves with a little supply teaching and lots more travel. Feel free to send us messages and love. I am sure we will need both! Meryl... read more

Our apologies go to all the people who were trying to read our blog. Technology let us down badly. There was no internet access at the hotels we stayed that I could find. The biggest problem was when we were on the boat. When our ship was moving, especially on the Main Canal, there was no internet connection. The bridges were so incrediably low the aerial was retracted so it wasn't broken. When we were in town and the aerial was raised there was a very strong filter system being used. It did not allow me to use the blog site or even access our emails. It was a very frustrating time had by all. We are at home now trying to rest and recover from the supposedly restful trip. We both have the flu from our ... read more

Packing day! 50 hours to go before we board the big jet airliner and its time to get those bags packed! I want to go to sleep tonight knowing thats all done and tomorrow all I have to do is concentrate on getting our butts down to Sydney where we are staying overnight near the airport. I'm following all the good travel advice i've read and packing light! My bag will be less than half full which means .... lots of shopping for new stuff! My friends and family can expect to see me in nothing but t-shirts with SINGAPORE, ROME, PARIS etc emblazoned all over them for the next couple of years. Although last time I went I bought a Tour-de-France t-shirt half covered in red spots which ive never been game to wear back ... read more

Well its getting closer now. Measuring the time to go in hours not days .... right now there are 124 hours to go yay! We have begun packing the bags, which this many days out is unusual for both of us. Nicole seems to be getting more excited now D Day (D for Departure) is nearing. She is starting to web surf the places we are going to and I think the reality that we are actually going is hitting her. Im at the stage where there isnt much more to do but wait.. and count the hours down. I have bought all the things I need to buy, checked all our travel documents, worked out what is happening with kids, work, house, dog etc so now its just waiting.... 124 hours and counting. Michael... read more
