This is the Australia I came to see! I got an early start on my first day in the Blue Mountains since I was eager to do some hiking, plus I wanted to enjoy some of the relatively cool morning. Unfortunately I missed the warm glow of the morning sun. The sun was already beating down by 9:30. On a side note the sun here seems brighter than any sun I’ve seen. When the camera was on automatic settings almost every picture I took came out over exposed. So I started at Echo Point where you get a nice view of the Jamison Valley and the Three Sisters. From there I took the Giant Stairway down to the valley floor. Now, they were not kidding about it being a giant stairway. I’m not sure how many ... read more

Geo: -33.714, 150.31231 Dec 2009 - 2 Jan 2010 My Mum is here on holidays, neither of us particularly like New Years, my husband is working that night, I am 7 months pregnant, so he encouraged us to go for a couple of days of pampering. Got a good enough deal for the time of year through www.hotelcub.net for the 5 star Lillianfels at fairly short notice. Decided to go by train which turns out was amazingly good value - like $11ish one way practically door to door for a 2 hour journey. Nice scenery along the way. We arrived around 13:30 so walked straight from the station to the town which took 5 mins and had lovely brunch in newly done up cafe. Then we mosied to the antiques emporium which is really good - I ... read more

Hello, After 3 weeks holiday it's time to start working but first I will share the beauty we saw with you. In brief, I went with my sister Goele for 10 days to Katoomba village in the Blue Mountains and afterwards another 5 days to Sydney and.... I really enjoyed!!! We made wonderful tours in a landscape that changed from a very hot dry forest with the deafening screaming of cicada-males, to wet rainforests with oh so beautiful tree ferns. We always took 4 liters of water with us and that was really a must. First of all because of the heat but also because of the pretty tough climbs. The "problem" of a canyon, as we experienced, is that you always have to get in and get out again But, it was worth the effort ... read more

Got up at 6:30 for our day trip to the Blue Mountains. Pulled back the curtains and could not see the harbour due to fog - groan! Still, we got ready and walked to our arranged pickup point with Australia Pacific Tours - was bucketing it down! The arranged time came and went so had to share a taxi to the main office pickup point in time for the tour. APT did not want to know about the fact they'd not picked us up - was in a mood then! We got underway and had a morning tea stop in Leura. The shop opposite our tea shop has a bench for bored husbands! Got to Echo Point - where the 3 sisters are supposed to be - but all we saw was a complete white-out of ... read more

We've heard an awful lot about the many ways in which you can unexpectedly - and quite suddenly - die in Australia. If you haven't yet read Bill Bryson's "A Sunburned Country" (titled "Down Under" in Australian book stores), pick it up. You'll learn all about the snakes, spiders, jellyfish, "salties" (crocodiles that reside in salt water) and many other nasties that are waiting for you in this otherwise friendly and welcoming country. By the way, it's not just Bryson; every Aussie that we meet seems to have some story about how their cousin/aunt/uncle/mate had a near-fatal encounter with a saltie/box jellyfish/python, etc. We're not sure if they're telling us the truth or if they just enjoy scaring Americans. Fortunately, no one has mentioned dangerous creatures that may be lying in wait for us in the ... read more

Hello everyone! In my third week here in the land of Aus, and it is more amazing each day! I spent 4 days in Jervis Bay with my new Friend Rosie at her beach house in St. Georges Basin. It was great and Rosie was a great tour guide! We went to tons of beaches and the national park there, visiting botanical gardens and little towns in the surrounding areas. Leaving there , I spent two days getting organized at her sisters house in a town called Gordon. Marissa and her family, Cody and little Freddie, were most gracious! I left there thursday and arrived in Katoomba at 7:30 that same night. Katoomba is by far my favorite stop yet! It is set in the center of the Blue mountains which is a World Heritage National ... read more
