Getting back to Sydney at lunchtime we headed over to ther Chinese friendship gardens in Darling Harbour, which were quality, really nicely laid out, you could spend hours just chilling out in there, we had about one hour, but then the call of the pies was just too much so we headed out to quench that pastry thirst. Once refuelled we headed to the Australian Museum, I wasn´t holding out much hope but it turned out to be great, especially the instalations of the Aborigional culture and the dinasours. The best, however, was the area devoted to the most dangerous animals of Australia, of which it has an inordinate number, seriously, we all know of the sharks, spiders and crocs, but they also have jellyfish, fish, snakes and any other number of bizarre things that can ... read more

Day 2 of the mountain experience and no rain, wicked........................we set off early to try and do three walks today, none of which were to be hardcore and what a beautiful day it was too. The hostel gave us free breakfasy which is always a bonus as well. The first walk we did was about 5km, and went round the top of the valley, you go past a famous rock formation called The Three Sisters, which are giant clumps of rock petruding from the wall of the mountain, we then passed along the rim of the valley which has magnificent views across the whole region, it literally goes on for miles and miles and is so densely vegetated that a lot of it you can imagine has never been visited by man. You pass a couple ... read more

From Sydney we took the short 2 hour train journey to Katoomba, inland and west of the city. It is the gteway to the Blue mountains, a huge area of amazing canyons, gorges and countryside. We checked into our hostel, The Flying Fox and got stared at for ages by 2 guests, very odd, it is a bit like a place out of ´The league of Gentlemen´. Anyway, dumped the bags and got out quick before they freaked us out too mucjçh and headed down to Echo point to discover a walk we could do that afternoon. We settled on the rainforest walk, an hour and a half up and down mission into nd round the valley. It starts with a descent of 960 steps to the valley base, some are metal stairs that have been ... read more

We had met a number of Sydneysiders on our travels, and whenever we asked them about the best places to visit, they all said the same - "Get out of town and see the Blue Mountains". So we did. We ummed and oohed about how to get there, but in the end we decided to accept our advancing years and get on a "Darby and Joan" style bus trip. We took the plunge, picked up a leaflet in the hotel, dialled the number and booked it for the following day, having no idea who the tour company were and what they were like! They sounded OK, and agreed to pick us up from our hotel the following morning. When they arrived, it was a minibus, with a couple sat at the front, three at the back, ... read more

Leaving Sydney we head off to the train station to catch our train to Katoomba in the heart of the Blue Mountains. A two hour journey, with about 22 stops before ours - and it was packed. We found our YHA, dropped off the bags and decided to go for an afternoon walk - well this turned into a 4 hour hike. We started at Echo Point where you look out into the valley below and the distant mountains, as well as a close up view of The Three Sisters, three large rock formations, which are part of the aboriginal dreamtime. Then its off down the Giant Staircase, which is basically 900 narrow steps grafted onto the back of The Three Sisters. Then a 2.5 Km walk over uneven and hilly terrain on a well marked ... read more

Sydney is surrounded by some beautiful places and one place that I had on my list of 'to do's' was the Blue Mountains. It's a mountainous area consisting of a sandstone plateau that includes gorges up to 760 metres in depth, and has high points up to 1,190 metres. It's namesake is derived from the blue tinge the range takes on when viewed from a distance. My housemate Kate also mentioned that she would like visit too, so we decided to go to Katoomba which is about 100km from Sydney and provides a good base for exploring the area. We left on a hot and sunny Saturday morning and made our way on the train out to the Blue Mountains area. Once we were out of the suburbs of Sydney the scenery was pretty amazing. We ... read more

Hi All, we're just back from a very relaxing and well deserved long weekend away in the Blue Mountains. We hired a car and booked a couple of nights in a pretty B&B just 90 minutes from Sydney. The blue mountains are known for the blue haze that rises from the forest of Eucalyptus trees. It's a bit like walking around in a forest of Vicks Vaporub. The weather forecast wasn't great but we reasoned it was better than hanging around in a wet and windy Sydney. The weather was changable but by and large it was nice and sunny althought I'm glad we didn't rent a convertable. We ended up with a monster of a car, a Holden Statesman, with a V6 3.6 litre engine. It was 17'5" feet long and a good 6'6" wide. ... read more

Spring Break 2008 begins! Friday September 19 was Conception Day at Macquarie Uni. Celebrates Uni Life and gives everyone an excuse to party and drink. Hot and Sunny outside. Had some good fun on the slide and blow up obstacle course. Then baked in the sun while sitting on the grass listening to the semi-aweful band. Saturday September 20 Day 1 of OZ Adventure Ziva and I left at 8:30am to catch the train. We arrived in Katoomba at 12:10pm. The Blue Mountains Australia. We lugged our bags to the YHA to check in and drop our gear. Was a 10 minute walk from the train station. After lightening our load we set off for a 15 minute walk to bushwalking trails and Scenic World where we road the worlds steepest railway and a Scenic Skyway. ... read more

FINALLLY!!! i SO NEEDED THIS RUSH! I went abseiling for the first time ever today with a great group of people!! I abseiled down 18 storeys of overhaning rock in the Blue Mountains. The views were breathtaking or maybe me being a whee bit terrified also took my breath away but either way.. it ROCKED! I was basically hanging in mid-air attatched to rope hoping & swinging down along the edge. I decided to also pull my legs up above me and lean back so I could go upside down. ya know.. to get the views from a different angle ;-P I abseiled about 6-9x and each time i had to lean back was enough to make me scream a little!! haha. Like.. the begining is always the hardest. standing on the edge with the rope ... read more

Once again I apologise for not updating my blog more regularly. It always seems like there is something better to do especially now the weather is sunny. So this morning I made myself sit down for half an hour and write an entry updating you on how I spent my Birthday. I also want to thank you all for all the lovely Birthday cards that you sent to me. I took them to the Blue Mountains with me and it was great to have them to open on the day. As I was in denial about being 30 I decided to get out of the city for my birthday weekend and head for the hills well the mountains actually. The Blue Mountains are 200km and a 2 hour train ride west of Sydney. It felt strange ... read more
