Phew! our luggage was 5th off the belt. We were met at Newcastle by Brian's sister Liz and mum at 11:45 - still a cold 3 degrees - back to reality. We tentatively weighed ourselves at 16:00ish OMG I only put 3lbs on and we were our usual weight around 11st - woohoo! Now, really don't know how that happened as we expected to be at least 6lbs heavier with all the food and booze. Almost makes up for the freezing weather.... read more

London was an over cast 4 degrees when we landed at T3 06:35. Took over an hour to get to T5 and go through security - again! Don't know why domestic passengers couldn't use the ePassport scanners and face cameras: their 3 lanes were empty most of the time. Badly in need of freshening I bought mini shaving accessories from Boots, then mouched round Duty Free. Sampled some moisturiser and after shave, then was not rude by refusing a shot of whiskey - as you do We found ourselves buying 1.2kg of Toblerone - don't know how that happened - not all for us though.... read more

Retired around midnight after and woke to sunny day before the alarm at 07:30. After finishing packing and checking out at 11:30 we had an hour and half to kill before making our way to the airport to check in for our 16:00 flight home (aw!). So we filled the time in with breccie at Roses Cafe under the World Square Monorail station. The best eggs benedict and tea for me and scrambled egg and bacon for Brian. White chocolate and macadamia nut cookie accompanied the cheeky latte that followed. We didn't win the NSW lotto, but came 1 number away from winning... $10 This was followed by a browse of the designer, craft, jewellery and antiques shops in the Victoria Building on George Street, before catching the Airport Link train at 13:15 from the circa ... read more

We woke only 4 hours later at 08:00 but didn't get up 09:00 ish and out by 11:00 to do some souvenir shopping. Another day of light rain and slightly cooler 19 degrees - bummer. After getting a couple bits in Darling Harbour we called in for hot chocolate at San Churros. Brian managed a banana, toffee, mini churro and cream creation - piggy! (I had a couple of churros though to go with my ginger infused thick chocolate - yummee!) We then got the remaining souvenirs in the shop we usually use near the hotel on Liverpool St. After this we went out for a walk away from Darling Harbour towards Pyrmont with the intention of walking round the more inland bays. We got as far as the impressive Anzac Bridge before light rain turned ... read more

Got up to a much better day with sunny spells around 09:30 - tiring doing nowt! Decided to have breccie at Mickey's again but our eyes were bigger than our bellies when the Big Breakfast arrived. We ate it though! Then wandered in a loop from Paddington to Rushcutters Bay on to the tranquil Beare Park at Elizabeth Bay. We always seem to be able to find someone to take our piccie. Then back via Potts Point naval bay and up the hill through Kings Cross to Taylor Square for a much earned beer / breezer. We were back for tea around 16:00 so I had a siesta. I woke at 18:30 to Brian coming back in from Coles at World Square with curry and rice and a carton of Melting Moments. His excuse was that ... read more

(Ok - hands up - so we had to have Pie Face at 22:00 whilst before retiring around midnight) We woke at 04:30 then slept again till 9:00 - a slightly warmer day weather wise, but raining slightly. Brian made tea and the crusts of the raisin bread and we were out for 11:00 ish. We walked across Hyde Park and into the Botanical Gardens before cutting across to Circular Quay. The light rain had cleared a bit whilst we waited for the 12:00 ferry to Manly where the beach is reputed to be good. We arrived at 12:30 and headed for the Tourist Information Centre near the wharf to dodge a shower. By the time we'd walked up The Corse towards the main surfing beach it was time for lunch! Very nice tomato and onion ... read more

Woke at 09:00 to a foggy day, looked out the window and saw that it actually heavy showers. After tea, toast and shower we donned the Boyes cheap waterproof jackets we got for Cairns but had no use for, then walked down Pitt street. Mooched round the Westfield shopping centre, then headed further down and ... bought a replacement document wallet in lime green (how exciting!) Had latte and banana bread / cherry muffin then onto the Rocks and Circular Quay. Toyed with becoming stowaways on the Caribbean 'Rhapsody of the Seas' loading passengers (who wouldn't), and took some photos from the International Passenger Terminal observation area not discovered before the before the camera battery died. We then walked back under the Harbour Bridge and through Hyde Park, bumping into our artist friend en route so ... read more

Rose after Brian made tea and fruit loaf toast around 10:00 to a warm sunny day. No hangover, but just fancied a rest day wandering round. Mooched round Market City, and Darling Harbour (had coffee and sandwich) then souvenir shops near the apartment. Investigated hiring a car and getting to the northern beaches. Made dinner with the remaining chicken then popped out for a couple of Oxford street drinks. Early night for once.... read more

Aw! left Cairns today, we've had a good time just meandering round the beaches and tropical rain forest Plenty for the memory banks. Woke up before alarm at 07:15 and had time for coffee, toast and fruit salad before driving to the airport. It was 29 degrees when we dropped off the car, and got through baggage drop and into departures/arrivals for 10:30. Had more coffee and a sandwich (cake for Brian) to kill the hour and half before take off. The flight down along the Barrier Reef coast was stunning scenery through the sun and sparse white cloud -so blue and green! Chicken curry and rice on the plane whilst watching a movie on the supplied iPad. Landed at 16:00 but had lost a hour somewhere in the air again - sunny 22 degrees will ... read more
