Huskisson was just a short drive down the coast, which we planned to use as a base to explore the Jervis Bay area. The Jervis Bay area was home to the Wandandian aboriginal tribe and experienced its first white settlers around 1840. Huskisson is bounded by Currambene Creek in the north, Moona Moona Creek in the south, the Jervis Bay shoreline and its beaches in the east, and Jervis Bay National Park in the west. Jervis Bay is home to HMAS Creswell, the naval college. It was decided in 1915 that Canberra, as our nation’s capital, needed a port, and the closest body of water was at Jervis Bay, which was dutifully handed over by the NSW government. So when you visit Jervis Bay, you are actually in the ACT. One of our first drives was ... read more

Well, we have been on the move again and exploring more of the country. While we were at Kiama we took a day trip up the coast to check out the "sea bridge" (see photos) and then did a slow trip back to Kiama along the coast road through Wollongong, Port Kembla and Shell Harbour etc. There are some great views to be had and some lovely little coastal towns along the way. We also take these opportunities to check out the caravan parks and free camps that are available and add any that are particularly good to our diary for visiting and staying at on future trips. We are now at Huskisson and have spent the day exploring the Jervis Bay National park and the little settlements and camp areas it has to offer. See ... read more

I had a few days off but had decided on a staycation, to explore a bit more of Sydney. However it seems like the travelbug can't keep me still, so with a couple of days up my sleeve I headed beyond Sydney to the South Coast and Southern Highlands, all highly recommended by locals. It's a very pretty drive down the south coast. My first stop was Berry, a very sweet little country town filled with cafes and homeware stores stuffed with knick knacks for cluttering up your house. It's a mystery to me - who is buying all this stuff? However my destination for the night was Huskisson, in Jervis Bay. It's a cute little coastal town on the edge of the national park. I was staying in a little B&B, run by a very ... read more

Friday 8th, and we say farewell to Shellharbour and head south through Kiama down to Huskisson on Jervis Bay. Clearly Shellharbour was sad to see us leave and sprinkled a few tears until we reached the edge of town. We could have spent another night either at Shellharbour or Kiama except accomodation was hard to come by due to the annual Jazz and Blues festival. Seems every man and his cattle dog was headed there, and why not? All the shows are for free. Our first planned stop was Kiama, and a great lookout down the coast at Mt Pleasant, a few Ks south overlooking Werri Bay. At Kiama, we were hoping to see Cathedral rocks, The Kiama Blow Hole and the Kiama Lighthouse. The sea was relatively calm, so we hired a row boat and ... read more
