We had been planning to head further down the coast, however, due to expected windy weather on the coast, we decided to tackle Dorrigo Mountain, and head along the Waterfall Way. We were a bit unsure about towing a caravan up the steep mountain range, but we figured we had a new car and the caravan is not overly long or heavy, so off we went. It was a steep pull up the narrow mountain road, passing first through Bellingen again. It wasn’t long though before we arrived at Dorrigo Mountain Tourist Park, where we set up. After lunch, we drove around the town and headed out to Dangars Falls, which were quite impressive from the lookout. We decided to walk down the gorge to the foot of the waterfall to get a better view, taking ... read more

The fourth week of our East Coast road-trip saw Linda and I heading north up the NSW Coast from Sydney, with our first stop being Caves Beach, just outside Swansea (a short distance from Newcastle). Thankfully the tide was out, so we were able to clamber about the rocks and explore the caves - some of which had passageways connecting them to each other - behind the southern end of the beach. From there we continued north to Newcastle, where we had just collected our take-away pizzas and headed to a nearby park as a threatening storm front blew in from the south, leaving us in perfect position from which to watch the deluge of rain and electrical storm as it beared down upon us... before we ultimately had to scamper back to the shelter of ... read more

Marg and I jumped into our Horizon Motorhome and spent 6 days traveling from Brisbane to Coffs Harbour, Dorrigo, Guyar, Mann River, Casino and back home. The weather forecast was not good and night one we experienced a loud thunder storm. When we got to Dorrigo it looked like the weather was going to close in quite quickly. The Drive from Coffs to Dorrigo climbs up through the Great Dividing Range, past the Newell and Sherrard Falls and to the Dorrigo Rain Forest Centre. These are very old rain forests, a mixture of trees with tangled vines and buttress root systems supporting the trees in relatively shallow soil. There is a magical bird chorus in the forest, red necked pademelons on the fringes of the forest. There are many fungi and lichen varieties. Had the weather ... read more

Sunday 26th Feb - Headed inland to visit Dorrigo - went through Bellingen which had a great main street with a lot of very old interesting buildings. The drive through this mountain range was just beautiful with rolling hills and lovely healthy looking cows grazing and then a beautiful rain forest. On the drive up we stopped and looked at the Newell falls which went under the road. Checked out the Dangar Falls then onto the Dorrigo National Park. Did the 5.8 klm walk through the beautiful rain forest and visited the Tristian Falls then the beautiful Crystal Shower Falls which was amazing - we are very lucky at the moment because of all the rain NSW has had over the summer which means all the falls are flowing very well. All the east coast has ... read more

Here I am again having survived a little trip away from my home base here in Port Macquarie. 3 years ago when I was here Jenny and I took a road trip through the hinterland of this part of NSW...and we drove through some lovely country - so finding myself within striking distance of this area agian - off I went to Dorrigo National Park and the Waterfall Way as the road is called. Got myself a room in the Bellingen Hostel - lovely and friendly and relaxing - verandahs to loaf around on with beautiful views of the mountains and down to the river, hammocks to lie in while reading a book ...and lots of nice travellers to talk to. The place was spotless and very efficientlyy run...thanks to Graham. ( I could have got ... read more

Today we drove out to visit the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and Skywalk. The Skywalk is not very long. It is just a small cantelever that would normally have a lovely view but it was very misty today. We then took the Wonga Walk, which is normally a 3hour walk through World Heritage rainforest, to visit the Tristinia and Crystal Shower Falls. The end of the loop had had a landslip and was blocked so you had to walk back the way you came which added quite a few km's and hills. It was a lovely walk, the rainforest and the waterfalls are beautiful. When we got back we went on another shorter walk called the "walk with the birds". This walk takes about a 1/2 an hour and is on an elevated wooden walkway. We could ... read more

We had two more places to visit along the Waterfall Way before heading off to Dorrigo. Yesterday, we ran out of time and, we did not get to see Metz Gorge or Bakers Falls. The road out to Metz Gorge was quite rocky and resulted in us getting a flat tyre. Steve put the spare one on and we had to drive back to Armidale to get a new one. We were just not meant to see Bakers Falls. After spending the morning waiting for the guy to fix the car we went back to the caravan park and hitched up to continue our journey. We drove to Ebor and had a picnic lunch at the Ebor Falls. They were fabulous. The water was pounding over the two falls at Ebor. Ebor Falls are located on ... read more
