Our final country is well and truly upon us - we have been in Oz now for about 3 weeks and have not found a better place yet than Coff's Harbour (loving it here). We have driven from Melbourne (great city) to the end of the Great Ocean Road (via the highway) and subsequently driven along it. It was beautiful although not as good as the hype would suggest (contraversial, moi?...). The spotting of a koala in the middle of the road just before dawn was a high point - he just wouldn't move...that is until P put the full beam on!!!! The drive from there to Sydney was fairly uneventful - a few stops at some seaside towns and some good forest scenery (although a lot of it was smokin' due to controlled fires). ... read more

Hello Everybody! We'll we have now left Sydney... We're in Coffs Harbour at the moment which is really nice. However the first weeks weather has not gone to plan! it feels a bit like we're on holiday in Wales not New South Wales! anyway... We left Sydney about 12ish on Monday and drove for a couple of hours to Newcastle. Our first stop was park on the out skirts. In this park we saw lots of Koalas and turned up at feeding time so we saw them doing something other than sleeping!! They are the cutest little animals though, i think we all wanted to take a forth member for the road trip with us :) We then headed into the town and went to the tourist information centre and the rain was falling... Hello everyone and greetings from Coffs Harbour! Im writing in english this time 'cause so many have wanted me to do so. So been to Forster and did the job for two weeks. I enjoyed it very much but it was time to move on. I came here on wednesday with Patrik and Kasper and Im heading up to Byron bay alone today. Ill be spending there atleast a week depending on how I like it. It's supposed to be a real party place. Let's hope so :) Ive had a great time here in Coffs. Lot's of good people to hang out, great beach, pubs and white river rafting. Our first impression of our Hostel here wasnt a good one, because they forgot us!!! We arrived late, @ 3am, and had called about it ... read more

Hello everyone…Happy Easter! Hope your all ok… we have been having some lovely weather here, and have heard that the snow has gone in the UK and now its up to 17 degrees in the North East!!! That makes our temperature of 35 degrees yesterday look crap! Haha. So we are still in Woolgoolga and have had a reasonably busy week… Ant has been working hard, with John, to pass his Scuba Qualification. I don’t know if the news traveled so far as home but there was a huge earthquake in The Solomon Islands (north of Oz) and the whole east coast of Australia was put on Tsunami Alert… all the beaches were closed…even Bondi! Which was a bit dodgy but as far as we know there was no change in the water! …We have ... read more

After watching the sunrise in Byron Bay, i was too paranoid to go to sleep in case i didn't wake up - i didn't want to miss my bus! As it turns out, the bus was an hour late (i've never seen that in Oz!) because of the BluesFest traffic and because it was Easter weekend, and my exhausting day was spent doing just about nothing! So i was pretty tired when i got into Coff's Harbour. I stayed at a hostel called "Aussietel", it was pretty cool because the girls there had activities planned ALL THE TIME so there was never really a moment where i had nothing to do! There was a bbq the first night i was there, then a trip to the pub, the next day there were beach activities (since ... read more

We were collected off our bus quite late that night and checked into Barracuda Hostel. We ended up with our own little dorm which was great. Having spent a whole day hanging around the hostel in Byron Bay we headed straight for bed. Coffs Harbour is about half way between Sydney and Brisbane and is a fairly big place. Best known for its Giant Banana and connecting theme park which celebrates Coffs main industry (Unsurprisingly we didn't make it out to see it). Oh and Russell Crowe lives down the road. The next day we were up early and took a walk along the nice beach beside us which brought us into the marina. We started to realise that we were no longer in Queensland as the weather was definitely chillier than we were used to. ... read more

The day we left Port Macquarie was terrible weather… looked out of the window and it looked like Britain! Was still warm but chucked it down all day…we were glad we had done the bike rides the day before and were due to have a few hours on the bus today anyway. We watched “Castaway” in the hostel then got a free shuttle to the bus stop. So we set off on the bus to a tiny town just outside of Coffs Harbour called Woolgoolga (Anthony still can’t pronounce it) where John n Steph live. We saw lots of kangaroos again, just sitting eating in the fields as we passed… they really are like sheep! When we arrived it was strange to see my Auntie and Uncle in another country…like “What on earth are you ... read more

Had two nice days in Coffs Harbour. We arrived on the 16th late afternoon and went out for dinner. It seemed particularly hot and humid yesterday so we spent quite a large part of the day in a nice air conditioned shopping mall! Got a new bikini though. We visited the Big Banana later on. Australia has a lot of "big" objects around the country but the Big Banana was the first one that started the trend. They have a banana-themed gift shop and various rides and attractions and a video telling you all about the local banana plantations. Went into the town in the evening to celebrate St Patricks day. It seems a big deal out here so we went to a huge pub/club for a dance. This morning was much cooler and has ... read more

Well what an experience that was on the first night at coffs. Really dodgy hostel and we got there late so everyone was drunk. At 5 in the morning there was these 2 guys having a fight in the kitchen. Was not good, so we escaped sharply in the morning and stayed at the yha which was great! We just lounged ont he beach most of the day. Found this cool river with a really strong current in. You lie in it and it takes you into the sea. Was so much fun! We cooked our first bbq at the hostel too. Of course george was master chef......luckily i am still alive! Coffs was a quiet place, not that much to do, but it was good! The weather was great! Thats about us for now, x ... read more

On our arrival at Coffs Harbour after another four and a half hour journey we finally find some sun and relax by the pool and I cook my favourite dish for the gang - spaghetti bolognaise!! But I think I spoke too quickly (how unlike me!!!!) as soon enough there was rain in the evening but it didn't last long and the next day was really pleasant, after relaxing again by the pool we thought we must do at least something so we hired some bikes and rode around Coffs. Only a flying visit through Coffs as we were in a hurry to get to Byron Bay for some sun, sea and surf................. ... read more
