At last back in the bush!!! The blue mountain national park is beautiful so we put on our hiking shoes and headed off to find some wild life! The first walk we did was to keep fit so we climbed up and down the 900 stairs at echo point to see the 3 sisters. You can see forest for miles and miles and they are really lucky not to have had any bush fires there for the last few years so it all lucks really green. The next day we headed out for a longer walk at Wentworth falls. We wanted to walk a slightly less well trodden path so we didn't walk the whole national pass but diverted slightly further down along the wentworth pass. We only saw 1 person along here so it really ... read more

A rather early start for us as we had a two hour drive to get to the Blue Mountains which is inland and North of New South Wales, just outside Sydney. Surprisingly it is Greg who wakes up first and he has to practically roll me out of bed. You would think that starting work at 6.45am nearly every day would have made me slightly more accustomed to getting up early but that doesn't seem to be the case. By the time we get organised it is nearly half ten so actually not that early a start after all. The ride up in the car is faultless and we arrive just before midday. Jacki, our flatmate, asks us what we would like to go and see and Greg mentions he would like to see a waterfall ... read more

Like all travelers - we seem to always have that itch that we just can't scratch when we are at home - the travel bug always bites hard and there is only one cure. But, I know I should never start a sentence with but, but ... While we are home bound our small plot of land has been keeping us busy and connected with the seasons, rainfall, harvests and lots of fun recipes for fresh vegetables. A quick peek in our cellar now reveals, aside from lots of our wine, jars of pickles, relish, chutney, also dill pickles and then a freezer full of home made sauces and pasta toppings. Ask us a question about what you can do with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. and we can assure you we have a vast array of ... read more

Day 81 We got up this morning and the mist and cloud from the mountain had truly rolled in and with light drizzle everything was absolutely soaked. Rain or not it was our plan to move on and it all had to be packed away, still the blessing was inside the trailer we were lovely and dry and warm. Heads down *rse up we piled in and got on with it, everything packed away in the trailer, top protective cover zipped on and we were done. Definitely done all right, we had lost the keys to the truck. High and low we looked, then we thought that we had possibly left them on top of the bed in the trailer that was now packed away. Sod it I am not getting it all out again in ... read more

We celebrated Chinese New Year with our friends - Ohnmar, Sandar, Terence, Yong, Deborah, Nicky, Sarah and Mum (as in our Burmese Mum). It was a nice family day, sharing food, lots of laughter and stories about a recent trip the folks from the Panditarama centre made to Canberra. On Australia Day (also New Years Day) Lorenza became an Australian citizen. She has been an Australian resident for about 40 years and finally decided to take the plunge. Part of the reason she did not do this earlier was that the Aussie citizenship oath used to involve proclaiming loyalty to the British King or Queen, and Lorenza did not want to do this because the Netherlands has their own Queen, plus she wanted to give her loyalty to the country not the royal family of another ... read more

Blue Mountains, Australia - January 16th - 6:06pm Well I’m pretty knackered today as I only got about 7 hours of sleep last night! Ahaha I need like 12 hours, I’m old you know. I woke up and poked my head around the corner to see if Jean was up, she was busy doing her morning workout, I started to feel bad since I haven’t even done anything active since I’ve been here. I got over it pretty fast though! We slowly got ready and decided to pack another picnic. We loaded the car up, put the top down and let the wind blow through our hair, we were off. It’s another lovely day out today, it was about 27 degrees when we left the house this morning at about 10am. Life doesn’t get much better ... read more

I've been in the Blue Mountains, a couple hours outside of Sydney for the last few days. It is a world heritage site and national park. Absolutely beautiful here !! It is all cliffs and valleys, and the weather has been perfect to enjoy it (sunny and hot everyday - yes I know the deep freeze is on at home, and fortunately I'm not there for it!!). I've been doing some hiking, a canyoning trip and yesterday I went to the Jenolean caves. Canyoning - this is one of the best days, we went about a hour or so drive out into the bush, most of it down logging roads, so you are in a really untouched part of the park. We were fitted out inot wet suits (as the rivers are only about 12 C), ... read more

Hola chicos and chicas, een update vanuit youth hostel blue mountains, close to sydney (last week of the trip helaas).

Day 191: Tuesday 6th January - The Blue Mountains at Katoomba After spending most of the last two weeks in cities it’s good to be getting out up into the mountains. I’ve loved both Melbourne and Sydney - two great cities - but I’m generally not a city person and will certainly enjoy not having to battle my way through Sydney’s congested roads. I make the hour long journey from the Northern beaches to the centre of Sydney for the last time to catch a 10am train up to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. The journey takes two hours, which I spend updating my blog which is now weeks behind. On arrival in Katoomba I get a surprise with how hot it is. We’re at around 3000 feet so it should be a good 5 degrees ... read more
