Tomorrow we're goin for a pub crawl in the civic, which is downtown Canberra, about a 10 min bus ride from here. The weather here continues to amaze me, not a cloud in ... read more

Ok ok ok.... so Australia !!! Sorry this has been so long coming (that’s if you’re not sick of receiving the updates email yet!). It took a few days to get to Sydney from Kota Kinabalu in Borneo. I had to fly from KK to Johor the southernmost state of Malaysia on the Peninsula, and then take a bus to Singapore. This is only a short journey by distance, but it includes taking one bus to the Malaysia border, disembarking to clear Malaysia customs, taking another bus along the causeway which links Malaysia to Singapore, and the disembarking for Singapore customs, and then taking another bus to the centre of Singapore. It's just bloody awkward, that's all. I had to stay a day and night in Singapore before flying to Sydney. I had plenty to do, ... read more

We made the decision to stop over for a few nights in Australia's capital -Canberra. We were greeted by a quiet, small, green city. We spent a day visiting the city's attractions, such as the Australian war memorial, Parlilment house which is actually built into capital hill so that two sides jut out of the earth leaving a grassy hilltop on its roof. We also visited Old Parliment house and Australian Museum which displayed an impressive collection of Australian and Aboriginal Art. We also saw Lake Burley Griffin which has the captain cook memorial jet in the middle of the lake and blows a six tonne column of water to heights of 147 meters to commemorate captain james cook's arrival on the east coast of australia. After an exhausting day of sight seeing we had a ... read more

The Heart of the Nation, Canberra, does not seem to 'beat' as much as the old capital Sydney. We got the impression it is also not as popular either. But this new city has the Nation's Government and Parliament Buildings, Embassies and National museums and galleries. We visited the National Gallery of Australia, where they had modern Australian and European art, as well as many rooms of famous Indigenous Aboriginal art. Their culture continually fascinates us. The more we learn about them, the more we respect them. We walked briefly around the outskirts of Canberra, which is more alive than the centre (which is like a modern ghost city!). We didn't see much of it, but then again we weren't particularly interested to either.... read more

Hey everyone! We reluctantly left Sydney on Friday, we've both completely fallen in love with the city as it's just so relaxed and the weather is certainly different from home. We did a couple more touristy things like walking across the harbour bridge and having a tour of the Sydney Opera House. It is such a stunning building, you don't realise how amazing it is until you're standing right next to it so that was a great thing to do. We also went to Taronga Zoo which you get to by ferry and is built on a slope with beautiful views over the harbour. The highlight was definetly a baby gorilla which was only 1 1/2 weeks old! We picked up our campervan, Mavis, from a slightly dodgy suburb but she is certainly a beaut, a ... read more

It was an 8 and a half hour coach trip from Melbourne to Canberra which wasn't too bad as we slept most of the way. We were up at the lovely time of 5:30 and said our goodbyes to Simone and Guiseppe who were nice enough to get up and see us off. We were almost at Canberra and the driver pulled the bus over into a layby and announced that we had a puncture! He spent a while trying to undo the wheel nuts with no success, then as if by magic a guy in a tow truck pulled up next to us and had all the tools for the job! So after leaving Melbourne at 7am we arrived in Canberra at 3:30pm. We were greeted off the coach by Gareth who is Joe's mum's ... read more

Canberra, chance to catch up with Sam! Wednesday 2nd What is it with my bag - some days it closes easily, sometimes it's just hard work! Today is a hard-work day, but at least I don't have any extra bags for once! 8am start, breakfast, pack and by 930 I'm in the internet café... Soon after there are queues for the computers so glad I've not left it any later! 2.5 hours later have caught up on some stuff, but not all - and have found out trip have been trying to book in Cairns is full so need to rework those plans. Not sure what is happening with my South America trip either, but that'll have to wait a bit. Today is the day I finally try the famous Greyhound bus. It's often been cheaper ... read more
