For our final outing before tackling the Big Move Part 2, we decided to visit Seattle for the day. I must admit that, like oh so many of our excursions, the trip was largely food-motivated - my parents and I had eaten at a place in Seattle called Ivar's 15 years ago and remember it having had the best clam chowder the world has ever known. Our plan was to retrace our steps to this holy grail and relive the glory :-). This noble mission was not without its drawbacks - Seattle is, of course, in the U.S., and the prospect of another U.S. border crossing filled us with trepidation, given our last experience with the joys of U.S. Customs and Immigration. Once again, they did not disappoint. After waiting for an hour queuing in the ... read more

July 30th 2005 - August 8th 2005 2005 has been a hectic year. Lots of activities! I was going for a 3 month break to India, a week after we return from this trip. Ganesh’s office had a forced shut down for 10 days and this was our later 5 days of vacation. We wanted to see WA & Glacier National Park. We initially thought of driving it all the way around. But some knowledgeable people from RTA told me “Impossible”. Duly noted. Next question: fly to where? We checked Portland and Seattle. Seattle would not have made it a round trip. Lots of criss-crossing. So, it had to be Portland. Ganesh had already been to Portland. I was not too keen and told him, “Let’s not do it…” But then, as always, he wanted to ... read more

After the first week of elation, learning and indulgence in Boston and MIT, the first weekend in America, I set out with my classmates on a tour of Washington DC - the capital of the US. The journey started at Chinatown, Boston, in Sunshine Tours a hrefwww.sunshineboston.com/a. I boarded the bus which set out on a slow pace and looked out the window...the sights and sounds of the boston city waking up (it was 7 am morning). The bus left the sleeping city and what started was a seemingly endless journey with a brief pitstop at virginia. Then the bus set out to the Skyline caverns at Virginia...to catch a glimpse of the naturally formed caverns. The caverns were a sight to watch..the temperature inside was freaking cold (shd be about 4 degrees)...and was great to ... read more

With a base of operations in the city i returned the hire car and then succeeded in contacting more friends and across the next week i met up with various friends, bought a quad-band phone and digital SLR camera (Jonathan's fault), booked a trip to Alcatraz with Jace. On Thursday went to potluck at Tappie and Mike's new place. Potluck is where the guests bring something to share or go into the cooking pots, it creates a very good environment for just hanging out and talking while many people share the work of getting dinner ready and never really knowing what is going to be for dinner until all the ingredients arrive, though it always turns out good. The chocolate brownies that were there were so good they made me a little dizzy. Friday night i ... read more

I am sorry that i have not posted any new information for a while now. I wish i could say its because i have been so busy but actually the opposite is true. It has pretty much been a daily grind since the last post and the big news for the week is that i found the snooze button on my alarm clock. The upside of this is that i have gained a few extra minutes of sleep each morning but on the downside is that two days ago i was in a rush and locked my key inside my room. no harm though i just had to have one of the people who work the front desk walk with me to my room and open my door for me. i felt bad making her walk ... read more

Just when we thought the Grand Canyon couldn't be matched, we found Sedona... The rocks are glorious, the red is like nothing we have ever seen. The boys golfed on Friday - Dorothy, we are not in Kansas anymore - the golf cart had GPS which sketched out the hole and gave pro tips on the best way to shoot. At one point it told them that they needed to return to the golf cart path when they had strayed off. Like OnStar for the golfer!! The girls and kids had a great breakfast at the Coffee Pot Restaurant, home of 101 omelettes then hung out at the pool for most of the afternoon. Saturday we had a great adventure on the Pink Jeep tours. This tour travels up and down the rocks (sometimes at ridiculous ... read more

Hi there!!
