Once again, thanks to everyone who wrote a quick comment on my Winnipeg story. Writing back always takes time -- so I appreciate your messages, and I hope you keep replying. As the comments pile up on the "blog," we seem to be starting our own little 'discussion' group for family and friends. I think it's neat! Toronto was surreal, but beautiful nonetheless! For those who are expecting an account of smog and awful smells, you will be disappointed. The train gently rocked through a dense ravine on its way to Union station. It was like sliding through a rain forest, only there would be the odd apartment complex that would rise out of the foliage. According to a native Torontonian on-board, there are few pathways that run along the creeks and rivers in the valley. ... read more

This weeks theme was super hero’s and me n Ying had the batman boys. ( the older boys 7-10) I also had shitty bus duty with Ryan a local doing an art major at college (he’s real good at drawing comic book characters! This gave me an extra 4 hrs every day, which sucks! One morning we left on of the little girls at the Y.M.C.A where we picked all the kids up and had to go back and get her, making us an hour late to camp. But it wasn’t entirely our fault, no one told us to go inside and sign her out because the parents usually come to the bus. For talent show Dustin gave us a skit from a scout skit website to do. It was about an elevator, quick and easy. ... read more

Despite frantic bouts of packing in preparation for the Big Move Part 2, we have found time to squeeze in a few more forays into Vancouver's backyard, although relaxing, recreational outings these were not - feats of endurance would probably be a more fitting description. The first was a hike up Grouse Mountain (on Vancouver's North Shore), dubbed the 'Grouse Grind' by locals - the name alone should have given it away. We had actually been planning to take the cable car up to the top, to enjoy some nice views and have a leisurely mountaintop stroll as a treat after all our packing. However, when we got to the base, the cost of the cable car turned out to be so exorbitant that, in our indignation, we vowed to walk up the mountain instead. After ... read more

My first flight, on a plane bound for Los Angeles, California USA. Bleedin' hell that was a long and boring 14 hours, at least i slept some of the time. Finally landed in Los Angeles approximately 3 hours before i left date/time wise and drove up highway 1 (scenic coastal route) to the San Francisco Bay Area. Jetlag made me pull over and sleep about halfway to my destination. I began my Californian sunburn there since i was spontaneously tired where there was no shade and had to pull over immediately. Once i got to Berkeley i absent mindedly tried to find Leticia and Jonathan's place without asking for directions and promptly got lost, one of my favourite things to do. Almost everytime i get lost i find something i haven't seen before that i really ... read more

Only 38 days til I set off for Thailand (via Singapore), to meet Bert (Alicia) in the bedlam of Khao San Road and start the trip that's been making up the bulk of my thoughts for the last three months. The tentative itinerary is to spend a month in Thailand, two weeks in Cambodia, a month in Vietnam, and then a little over a month in India, after which Bert goes back to Poland and I have some decisions to make... either stay in India for a couple more months, heading to the south, or return to Thailand for a few more beaches and maybe venture into Malaysia and/or Indonesia. The possibilities are endless - ah, being young and free is brilliant. Even thinking about it makes me giddy and unwilling to focus on the mundanities ... read more

I drove through pretty non-descript country from Lac La Hache to Fort Fraser. Mom took over and I slept for an hour. She drove us to the (near) Junction of 16 and 37 to Sealy Lake Provincial Park. This park had a neat history and a lake full of trout, a bunch of noisy kids and camp collectors that do a great job of knowing everything thats going on in camp. We decided not to fish, but we now have our gear accessible for any forays into the pristine wilderness. Dot is in full heat, bleeding all over her fug. It's hard to get her to stay on her rug while we sleep. I imagine that we will have blood all over our things shortly. Ugh. We are getting going very late today. It's already 11:30 ... read more
