Well here we go again, another well overdue addition to my blogg. Here are a few more details and shots of my paddle trip. I hope you enjoy. As part of this adventure I had planned a side trip to the Great Bear Lake where the fishing was said to be legendary. Every photo I saw of this place featured a sun burnt, overweight international visitor with bad glasses holding a fish that would have made Rex Hunt look like an amateur. This lake is unique in that it is the 7th largest in the world, the only community on it has a population of about 1000, it has never had a commercial fishing industry and it’s located on the northern edge of the tree line which makes for striking scenery. Did I mention its ... read more

No act of kindness,no matter how small is ever wasted. Alsop The lion & the mouse August 1, 2005,Monday. We left Fairbanks and stopped at the North Pole for breakfast. One guess how this town makes it money…..Yes, everything is done around the Christmas theme. I my opinion “overkill” and touristy, but Mr. Bob enjoyed himself. The drive on the Road to the End of the World, did indeed seem like the End of the World was our destination as we bounced along on a dirt road. Chicken was our first stop, population 40 or so. Once this was a thriving mining town not so now. This “town” does not have electricity, and is completely run by a generator. The miners wanted to name this tent city Ptarmigan, a chicken-like critter seen everywhere, but alas ... read more

We left the Wigwams and headed for Lake Powell. Lake Powell is on the Utah/Arizona border. We swam in the pool and relaxed before dinner then enjoyed a fabulous sunset. I'm sure we could have spent more time there if we had known how nice it was.... read more

August 1 Montreal Everyone is still up when we get back. Discover it is Andy and Elaine's wedding anniversary. If we'd known we'd have brought wine, drink more of theirs instead. Boys straight back in front of the TV. There has been a new addition to the family while we've been away. Now in residence is a tiny hamster. Back to the basement to find that now only has our white washing been done but it has also been ironed - luxury. August 2 Montreal Sleep in while Steve takes the car back. They charge us for the wheel trim we scratched on a granite curb. Next time we'll choose a car that is less posh. Alloy wheel trims are expensive to refurbish. Trip to the supermarket where I experienced my first 'car order'. You do ... read more

Things have officially come to an end here at the Olympic Training Center. Today had an eventfull happening as i found out that Brian Waite is not going to be going to the game. i guess he and the coach had been talking since last Thursday and he ended up being replaced by Nate Meerstien from Penn State. I talked to him about it and he seems to be doing ok just a little bummed. I was disapointed to hear the news too as now im going to have one less good friend along for the experiance. There is a little consolation for him now, though, as he will be able to play in the Hume Lake Volleyball Classic. he will be attempting to end my teams dynasty, however, so i wished him no luck in ... read more

Hurray the bar is done! In a few more days and I'm off to Europe for a few fun-filled weeks. Since it is virtually impossible that I'll be able to be in contact with everyone while I'm gone (though I'd love to if I could), I decided to set up this website so you all can see and hear about my adventures and to otherwise make sure I'm still doing okay. You can post messages back to me on this website, look at pics, read my journal entries and you'll be able to see what cities I'm in or just left. I there's anything you want form any of the cities listed below, please speak up...though warning if it doesn't fit in my backpack, it won't be coming back with me so choose wisely or we'll ... read more

Since my photos are on my laptop and Melissa's photos are on her laptop we have to make one entry each to upload photos. So, I apologize for the duplicate notices you will all get each time we update the site. As you know we spent a few days in the North Cascades of Washington. Something Melissa failed to mention is that Sasquatch, aka Bigfoot, is a resident of these mountains. I hoped our wildlife spotting luck would carry over from the griz and that we would run into an equally "friendly" Bigfoot here, but it wasn't meant to be. However, my beard is getting longer and by the end of the trip I might be able to pass for a not-so-big-footed Bigfoot. So, here are a couple photos from our travels here in the Cascades. ... read more

Well, it is the end of week 2 and everything is still great except for one thing. Bret's camera broke. Yep, broke. There is a dial on the back that is the main control of most of its functions and it has broke. How and why we don't know. The dial stopped working while we were in Glacier, but he was still able to use it until the hike in the North Cascades. We were coming back from a hike and he wanted to photograph sunset. I had him take a record shot of the two of us and B-dawg with Mt. Baker in the background first and after that photo it automated itself to large jpeg and won't work. Because the dial is broke there is no way to take it off. For you photographers, ... read more

Dear Bears, Simpson, and Illsley families, Thank you for your kind hospitality during my week long stay in Halifax. ...Joan, you made a wonderful supper for everyone on Sunday. You had quite a selection of items: roast beef, chicken, chirizo sausage, russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, vegetables and fiddle heads -- yum. We retired to the living room for carrot cake and amaretto flavored coffee. ...Esther and Joan gave me two books from the family library. One of the volumes was compiled and edited by Raymond Simpson -- Esther's husband. From the diary of Annie Rogers Butler and the letters of John Kendrick Butler, Ray weaves together a telling account of life on the sea in the late 19th century. The title is, If we are spared each Other. The other book is a secondary source, which ... read more

World Trade Center, Ciudad de Mexico 20:35 I just entered one of the internet cafes and asked if they can sponsor me few hours of internet, so I can do some research about which companies to visit. Today I spent all day going from company to company and it brought no results. I received a letter from Japan Airlines and they gave me a discount, so the ticket would cost me 880 dolars. I divided this in 10 parts and now I keep asking companies to participate with one part. I feel good. Every company that refuses me, brings me closer to my goal... to find one who will accept me. I know it is waiting for me. I just received a letter from the editor of one section of the newspaper Reforma. He told me ... read more
