Owen and Rory after 50% of their frozen slush drink. August 1 Montreal
Everyone is still up when we get back. Discover it is Andy and Elaine's wedding anniversary.
If we'd known we'd have brought wine, drink more of theirs instead.
Boys straight back in front of the TV.
There has been a new addition to the family while we've been away.
Now in residence is a tiny hamster.
Back to the basement to find that now only has our white washing
been done but it has also been ironed - luxury.

Sleep in while Steve takes the car back. They charge us for the wheel trim we scratched
on a granite curb. Next time we'll choose a car that is less posh. Alloy wheel trims are
expensive to refurbish.
Trip to the supermarket where I experienced my first 'car order'. You do your shopping
in the normal way and pay at the till. They hand you a ticket. You leave your goods
and return to the car which you drive to the pick up point. Hand over the ticket and your
purchases are loaded into your boot. Most boots have a button inside that 'pops' them so
you dont even need to get out.
You just hope that it is your shopping. Although this sounds
excessive I should point out that there
are barriers to stop you wheeling trolleys into the car park.
Spend a couple of hours pottering around the kitchen cooking tea. It's good to do something
normal for a change.
Steve meanwhile has been investigating the area we plan to visit next.
Everyone sits down to eat together. Very homely, not that we often eat together at home.

Elaine and Steve do some gardening. I surf internet for places to stay in Ontario, with very
little luck I might add. No lack of accommodation but it's holiday season here so poor
availability.
We consider going on the Polar Bear express which takes you a long way north and where you can
swim with Polar Bears.I believe there is a glass partition between you and them.
Becomes too complicated and would eat into our time considerably so we settle for simply
visiting the Ontario lakes.
Accompany Elaine and Jen to Costco. It is a massive shop that sells a huge range of things usually
in bulk. It's is quite intimidating but fun. Very hard to resist putting

the trolley.
Catch up on washing.
August 4 Montreal
Decision time. Where shall we stay? Find a trailer but not quick enough off the mark and it's taken
by the time we phone. Settle on a 'housekeeping cabin' on the shore of lake Cecebe.
Bus to St Annes with the boys. Walk further this time and get to the lock. It's huge compared to
those on the Grand Union canal. As it's summer the rise is not very big and Rory is singluarly
unimpressed.
Have lunch in the garden of a cafe overlooking the canal. Really good food and everyone is happy.
Wander back through the village and find a charity shop. First one since leaving UK. Steve and I
both buy new shirts some of ours are wearing out.
Ice cream from the garage for pud.
The boys have huge blue slushies. When you see what it did to their tongues you must wonder about
their intestines.
Back at Elaine and Andy's the girls are about to go to football (sorry soccer) practice.
Owen and Rory are invited to join them and have a great time. Dont now if the coach knew they

Get ready for trip to Ontario and keep out of Elaine's way as she is preparing for Andy and Jen
to go away for a weekend tournament tonight.
Join Elaine for a trip to Canadian Tire. A huge shop that sells everything for outdoors.
Happy to find that Suzanna is as keen as my kids to fill the trolley with things she sees and
needs.
One remarkable thing is that they have scale models of the tents that they sell about the size
of a dolls house. They are so sweet.
Pick up the car - oh no it's the same model as last week.
Fill the boot with groceries as we will be in the back of beyond and may not be able to find
pancake mix and other essentials.
Pack the car as we want to get off early in the morning.
Calm relaxing evening watching old episodes of Friends.
