Just when we thought the Grand Canyon couldn't be matched, we found Sedona... The rocks are glorious, the red is like nothing we have ever seen. The boys golfed on Friday - Dorothy, we are not in Kansas anymore - the golf cart had GPS which sketched out the hole and gave pro tips on the best way to shoot. At one point it told them that they needed to return to the golf cart path when they had strayed off. Like OnStar for the golfer!! The girls and kids had a great breakfast at the Coffee Pot Restaurant, home of 101 omelettes then hung out at the pool for most of the afternoon. My expectations of Washington DC have totally been surpassed. Being the capital I had pictured a place dominated by politics. It clearly goes well beyond this and offers to many a great place to live. Compared to many other cities it is not cheap, but seem comparable with Sydney. My favourite place so far is the Smithsonian Institute. First of all the institute is not just one building but several, with buildings dedicated to individuals disciples from history, art, nature and space. Typically Americans love the air and space museum. Inside this one is a full dome planetarium theatre. After walking around for most of the day I gave this a try. Having a full dome screen above gives you the feeling of movement and distance in space. This theatre is an advancement on anything else ... read more

Last weekend my two sister's (Angela and Alana) and I (Alicia) took a road trip around the Colorado Rockies. Our plan was to hit some sites that we hadn't been to and to travel some roads we'd never tried. We crammed into the beetle along with a minimum amount of luggage and a large cooler packed with snacks, water, and meals on a Thursday evening to head west on I-70. We arrived in Glenwood Springs at our first hostel. It was an interesting experience. I don't think that Alana will ever want to stay there again, but I didn't think it was too bad. They had over booked and so they offered us 'accommodations' for $7/each. We slept on foam mats in a little space at the top of the stairs. It was hot and noisy ... read more

So we drove to Scully's which is open 24 hours. After debating what candy to buy, we smelled fresh coffee. Scully said we could filll our mugs in the empty cafe. I went up the three steps catching my sandal on the 2nd, stumbling up the third and onto the deck through the back door, grabbed the booth table and did a 180 and landed on my a$$! All the while my mom was laughing at me, and all I could do is laugh as well. Later I discovered that I had bruised my hand with my watch and I have a four inch bruise on my right forearm and a large bruise on my heel area. Fun stuff! Fatique on the road is a joy! This was definately the best weekend yet!!! Jolene and Chet (american uni friends) had invited me to there place in upstate New York for their towns annual Harborfest!! Oswego is near Syracuse and right on the edge of Lake Ontario (a huge ass lake that you cant even see the other side!! and no tuffy that dosnt make it the ocean) i took an eight hour bus ride from newton, boston to syracuse new york where i got off and caught another bus to oswego university campus. I had heaps of fun meeting all jo's and chet's friends and drinking lots of beer, cant really say what i got up to as a lot of it is blurry and the rest is better left off the net. so thanks to all the peeps who i met ... read more

Sometimes life hands you something so perfect it's hard to believe it could really be true July 29, 2005, Friday. Today is the Artic Circle trip. We flew up in a Navajo Chief, a small plane that seats 10. At the start of our flight it appeared foggy, we later learned this was smoke from a burn in the forest. When lightning strikes in the wilderness of Alaska, it is allowed to burn itself out; unless of course, houses or villages are endangered. Last year 6 ½ MILLION acres of forest burned, it was the worst year on record. Lightning strikes are considered a natural occurrence and as such part of the ecosystem. Holly and I hosted Dr. Harald Marencic and his wife Angelika for three nights at our home in Cool. We met through The Hospitality Club at www.hospitalityclub.org prior to their Northern California Gold Country visit. Harald is a wildlife biologist and Deputy Secretary with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat in Wilhelmshaven, Northern Germany. Angelika, a german school teacher with a very british accent, teaches English language and History. We learned about the coastal town of Wilhelmshaven in Northern Germany, the North Sea and the Wadden Islands. Our guests like hiking, biking, camping and; as we do, hosting travelers. They are warm, kind and friendly people, we had dinner together during their second of a three night stay. My Best Summer Experience...Yea, I had an unforgettable summer experience in America! Few months ago, Me and my best friend (Amy) joined this Camp Counselor programme in America and I will never forget the moment I had in America, it was awesome and I love it! On the first day I arrived at the camp, I felt good about it 'cos the camp was really scenic and it was so quiet and peaceful, the lake was so perfect, it just like a heaven for me. While I was there, I had made numerous numbers of friends all over the world and I still keep in touch with them, it was kinda fun to know them and learn new culture and languages from them.
