My Best Summer Experience...Yea, I had an unforgettable summer experience in America!
Few months ago, Me and my best friend (Amy) joined this Camp Counselor programme in America and I will never forget the moment I had in America, it was awesome and I love it!
On the first day I arrived at the camp, I felt good about it 'cos the camp was really scenic and it was so quiet and peaceful, the lake was so perfect, it just like a heaven for me. While I was there, I had made numerous numbers of friends all over the world and I still keep in touch with them, it was kinda fun to know them and learn new culture and languages from them. We always goofy around and share jokes and laughs...aww I miss those times. People in the camp was very friendly and the camp director was real nice as well as the campers even though some of them drive me crazy sometimes.
I gone through a month intensive training while I was in the camp where I learned a lot of skills and it was awesome. We hiked to the Appalachian Trail without bathing for several nights
etc and yeah the first moment I stepped on the Appalachian Trail, I don't feel comfortable with it cos the trail was so rocky and kinda hard for me to walk, I fall on the rock and I got a big scalp on my knees, no worry it didn't hurt and the scalp is healing now. But from the second day onwards, I felt better cos I used to it already and I can say that I love walking on that trail and when you make it to the top of the trail, the scenery was beautiful and it was worthwhile.
While I was on the trail, I have seen a baby bear for real for the first time and it was so cute and it afraid of us and don't dare to come near to us and I seen a baby deer and the mother deer, squirrel, chipmunk etc...they were lovely but they can be rival too sometimes.
I have learned a lot of new skill like how to hang a bear bag to avoid bear or any other animal to get your food while you were on the site, how to set up a tent, what to
do if there is lightning and storm, outdoors cooking and I'm a very good cook now, rock climbing, adventure course, how to wash dishes in the wilderness. I have seen lots of black bear as New Jersey have the highest population of Black bear in the Black Country and I have seen one biggest than me and it was fierce.
There was one time while doing the community service (Child care center) in Newark, and I had a great time playing and get close to the kids and they were so lovely and they loved me so much cause I'm a Chinese and I looked different from the Caucasian. Whole bunch of them came to me and asked me so many questions and hugged me, kept asking you to play with them. I felt so warm inside with those kids and I taught them how to do a banana dance, how to play imaginative basketball and they gave me a nickname "Africa" (cause it’s similar to Jessica)...haha! Yea, these kids taught me how to do an African dance. it was so cool, I love kids!
Also, I learned how to canoeing and dam repelling and how to conduct
the high ropes course. I love canoe along the Delaware River where we had a great fun, we did water fights with the paddle and some of my kids dang me into the river and made me suffocating but trust me I did give them a good pay back by dang them back! haha...Gosh, It was fun and I love the water fights! I still remember we used to put all the ais in the water in a pail and we chased one another around the camp with the pill..it was so good and fun and we used to play that with all the campers too :p
I have a lots of fun experience while at the camp, there was one time, we had the 'milk challenge' among two summer staff and it was so funny the challenge where 2 of them need to finish 1 gallon of milk and it was so disgusting when they thrown out the milk after they drank half the gallon..yuckie....just imagine you see 2 water paip with the water flowing out.
Overall, I grown a lot and see things in different perspective and I am different with the previous me, I love the
current me 😊 I had the great time in my life and I will definitely go back to have more fun and to meet with those kids again as some of them begging me to go back and it was kinda touch as they still write to me and ask me to go back.
xoxo Jessica
