Our campground is cool. It has been taken over by elk in rut who have free reign of the grounds and emit their screeching bellows all night long, trying to woo females but, in reality, just keeping everyone awake :-). I've strapped up Quin's ankle so he able to hobble short distances now, mainly lured on by the promise of food. More trips to the bakery, haha. After checking out the job and housing scene in Jasper (which seems more promising than Banff), I went for a short walk called the Valley of Five Lakes, largely because the Lonely Planet promised beavers and evidence thereof. Well, the beavers were nowhere to be seen, nor was the evidence, unless you count bark missing from some of the trees (which we tried to convince ourselves was indeed caused ... read more

September 26th Monday Pack things into the car, there's loads of room in this boot. We have been at the beach for 10 days and I could stay another 10. It is beautiful and the pace of life, slow to stop, is refreshing. Arrive outside our Waikiki hotel and Steve chucks us out and goes to take car back. Two bell boys immeadiately jump to putting the bags on a posh trolley. What a difference from the last few days. I book in realizing I am dressed in a sarong - not quite the same standard of dress as the rest of the tourists in the hotel...oh well. Our room is on the 7th floor. As we get out of the lift..activated by the room key card...there is a 4ft wall and a view down to ... read more

Are we there yet

So we started by driving though Death Valley and camping for one very hot night right in the middle. It's one of the dryest places on earth so obviously the night we were there it rained. The lightning was quite spectacular though. Fortunately the car didn't break down and Sara didn't decide to murder me and bury me in the desert so we made it out alive though our little weedy hire car only just made it over the mountain range on the other side.... read more

Well we went to see La Femme, a topless review in the spirit of the Crazy Horse from Paris. It was at the MGM Grand, so it was just over the road from our hotel. The show started at 10:30pm (bear in mind we have been on the go since we landed) and what Mick might not want everyone to know is that he fell asleep during the nudie show! We then had a burger at Fat Burgers, then went home. The place is as crowded at midnight as it is at 8 am. And the beautiful people that you see on CSI must all be in the gym or hiding in their hotel rooms because all of the people we saw were very ordinary! The only beautiful people we saw were the dancers in the ... read more

Left Vegas after that and we spent last night in Barstow, a little town with the distinction of having once been the number 1 meth producer in the USA (according to the nice young man I met at the motel after hours window who was “going out to get drunk”)! Left Barstow the next morning, and thank goodness we saw a Starbucks. The coffee you get at motels etc is crap. We had McDonalds for breakfast, so we now know what biscuits and McGriddles are. The Americans really do have a sweet tooth. ... read more

It's been a while since I’ve chatted with some of you . . . so what have I been up to?? Well, it's been a great few months. A lot has happened but I have to admit I’ve been slacking on the e-mails, so I’ll give you a bit of a summary . . . From May to July I spent 3 awesome months in South East Asia with Nicole Marcotte. We had a great time touring Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Some highlights include trekking, beaching, tubing, kayaking . . . I could go on and on! Then I spent the last couple of weeks in Australia visiting Dylan Smart who's lovin' the hockey life down under! I also got to spend a weekend with Steph and Omar who Nicole and I had ... read more

Well, after 4 weeks of travelling across the United States and into Canada I have now made it back to New York. I had an amazing trip, met some fantastic people and had lots of laughs. The highlights of the trip for me were completing a 12 mile hike in Glacier National Park with breath taking views, enjoying a fish supper in Seattle, going to Alcatraz and spending a day at good old Disneyland! I now have 6 nights in NYC before I come home.... read more
