Hello Everyone, Well we finally can unpack our bags as we have moved into a flat - ahhh..is great to have our own space. We have rented a one bedder downtown - very close to everything which is great just a walk to English Bay, Stanley Park and the CBD where Mark is working. We have attached some photos of where we are living and the lovely views of mountains and city skyline (we check the mountain every day for snow!!!) Hope you are all doing well :) Mel & Mark ... read more

My neighbor’s sprinkler makes a gentle patter on the sidewalk, tapwater meandering through the cracks and channels towards the gutter and the nearly-dead, oxygen-deprived Elizabeth River. Who knows? Perhaps a Tru-Green ChemLawn makes for a Tru-Green Chesapeake Bay. The sky glows pink and orange as clouds drift by low enough to reflect our streetlights back in an earlier glow punctuated by patches of pre-dawn azure blue, and the crepe myrtle stands in shadowed contrast, the alien trees engulfing human-scaled street lamps. The hum of air conditioners (It’s 64 degrees people, open your windows!) is accented by the constant buzz of cicadas and the odd mockingbird. It’s a good morning for a bike ride. It’s just another morning for a drive. There’s a connection that’s maintained with the world (natural or manmade) that is lost in a ... read more

Well, seeing as how Trent has three computers and two are dedicated to WOW, this computer might as well be put to use updating the blog. Had a good sleep last night, Trent has a great couch, we took off to Anaheim around 9:45 to avoid rush hour (it worked) got to Disneyland around 10:30 -lots has changed since 1995 which was cool, I didnt actually go on anything new, but about 50% of the rides we did do had been revamped for the 50 year anniversary, so that was cool. Space mountain was the highlight, indiana jones in second place. Pretty typical day there i thought, Ryan fell in love with Belle from beauty in the beast, and I managed to get some paparazzi shots of her from a distance whilst she was swarmed by ... read more

The next day we headed inland for Yosemite National Park. Of course even after going to bed relatively early we still didn't leave early enough. We had a huge lunch along the way Ribs and Catfish! Once again the lack of road signs caused us trouble! We arrived at Yosemite in the mid afternoon and it was absolutely spectacular! We could hardly drag ourselves away, and once again vowed to come back for at least a week! Every corner it seemed we had to stop and take more photos! When it became dark we had no choice but to leave, so we headed for Fresno (yay)!... read more

Day 3 We packed our things and jumped into the supershuttle (Very Very Hung over sounds of the night before a bleak distance memory). It appears that our driver has no idea of the road rules and nearly runs down several people, millimetres from people leaning of the cable cars and running all red lights, once we get outta the traffic we would be doing upwards of 80-85 miles an hour (130-135kms) these guys are crazy fuckers, we get to the airport and catch flight 1 of our two flight stretch from San Fran to Denver Colorado on schedule.. this however was all about to change... we arrive at Denver as planned for our transfer and hope on our flight to MSP, we make it as far as the runway then the plan grinds to a ... read more

Our epic trip is drawing to an end - we are now back in Vancouver after a day of living it up in the Okanagan. We spent most of the morning getting accidentally intoxicated in local wineries around Oliver, most of which give out free samples. It is amazing how quickly a few sips here and there add up. In fact, I had to confiscate the car from Quin because you know how quickly he gets drunk! The beet-red face is a dead giveaway. Most wine we've tried in Canada has been atrocious, but we did manage to find a few nice reds in some of the local, family-run wineries we visited. Our real find, though, was ice wine. Oh sweet nectar ambrosia! This is an incredibly good, rare (and expensive) dessert wine made from ... read more

Salty Bear begins Nova Scotia, PEI Little New Brunswick. I had an 8:30AM start this morning meeting up with the Salty Bear tour company. It took about a half hour to get everything sorted out and soon enough we were off and running. The beginning of the tour was mainly driving on the highway, so it was not all that exciting. It did give us a bit of a chance to get to know one another a little bit better and we also got a bit of a run down from Carman, our tour guide/driver. We're a small bunch. 10 people on tour plus Carman. So there's Duncan and Olaf. Duncan is Carman's brother and Olaf is Duncan's friend. Tania from Australia. She's been travelling and working the last 18 months or so. She’s been through ... read more

Up as early as we could manage (~6.00 am) and hit the road (~8.00 am) to head north over Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods the first stop of the day. We took the wrong exit (again) and got off early (will get the hang of the system eventually). Once off the highway the drive to Muir Woods was VERY nice! (with the top down of course) and the trees were SPECTACULAR! A coffee and a (very) salty pretzel and back on the road . . . So what do you have for lunch when time is short and you're racing the sun to Yosemite National Park? All you can eat ribs of course! I only managed four ribs as I was trying not to be a glutten, besides I had a long drive still ahead. ... read more
