Vancouver, Canada is only a 3 hour flight from LA - ie a 17 hour flight from Sydney - but it reminded me so much of home (just with Melbourne weather). The city looked just like Sydney, but obviously much bigger and much closer to the outdoor activities we would normally have to travel to New Zealand for. Plus because Vancouver is so close to Whistler ski village - there are HEAPS of people our age to meet from all over the world. Start saving you definetly have to visit Canada when you come visit us in LA! ... & the bonus is Canadians are much nicer than Americans :) ... read more

TaliesinMaureen Kelly/Robert Tait This is my first time in Wisconsin, and I am impressed with the farms and rolling hills. Things just move a bit slower here it seems. Spring Green, Wisconsin was our destination. Our first stop was Frank Lloyd Wright’s (FLW) Visitor’s Center/restaurant. This structure was designed by FLW to be a restaurant. After considering our options, we decided on the longest tour, the estate Tour (four hours), for tomorrow. We browsed through the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin and came across a lovely gallery. The owner was from Germany and she had an eclectic collection of artwork. Frank Lloyd Wright is considered, by some, to be the most inventive architect of our generation. Wisconsin is Wright’s birthplace and the site of some of his most famous structures. Taliesin is often thoug... read more

Travelled to Snoqualmie Falls about 39 miles from Tacoma with Heather at the wheel of her delightful new car, her dad Dennis a little twitchy at the car's proximity to the traffic in front! Walked to the base of the falls and stopped for a bite to eat on the way back. Did I say bite? You don't get bites in USA, half a buffalo more like it - wow! I thought we'd never eat that BBQ when we get back.................................but we did. Thanks Catharine!! ... read more

Wildlife As we approached Yellowstone we saw various signs to remind us that wildlife is just that, wild. I find it interesting the different precautions that are needed, depending on the camping situation. There was one sign that stated not to sleep in the same clothes that you cook in. I assume that was for tent campers. The area we camped in was only for hard sided campers, no tents or pop-ups due to it being a bear management area. At Fishing Bridge Campground we were biking back to our site. At the end of our row there in a sharp turn. I was leading, so George wouldn’t get way ahead of me. I’m not a fast biker, and as I came to the turn I braked hard due to seeing a big hairy animal around ... read more

The next day, we started slow. After sleeping late, we wandered down the street to a small crepe shop. We spent a good hour there, drinking coffee, reading the newspaper (in case you were curious, Paris Hilton is front-page news even in Vancouver), and eating absolutely delicious crepes. After a relaxing morning, we decided to take the scenic route to North Vancouver. We caught the Seabus, a large public ferry, from Waterfront Station across the bay to Lonsdale Quay. During the ride over, we had a nice conversation with the ferry conductor. In addition to warning us (too late) about the perils of Chinatown, he told us about the upcoming nude bicycle protest. Only in Vancouver, he said, would the police laugh and ignore such a spectacle. We finally had someone to ask the question we'd ... read more

We boarded the G train from Nostrand and Bedford, transferred to the A line at Hoyt and rode it one stop to Jay Street. Then we hopped on the F train and stayed on thru Manhattan and then over into Queens. At Roosevelt Avenue, we jumped on the Q33 bus which took us straight into La Guardia airport. It was Sunday, June 3 and we were headed to Atlanta. The barebones AA flight was boring and we slept thru the entire two-hour journey. Aaaaaah. ATL, ATL. We had been there before. Back in 2005. And we loved it then. We landed around 2pm, cleared and waited in the atrium for Shanna's mom, Mama Marcia, and stepdad, Ton (pronounced "Toe"). There were platoons of US Army soldiers in the waiting area. The packed area burst into applause ... read more

Wow, wow, wow and wow. Today was easily one of the more difficult rounds of golf of the year. The wind was absolutely howling today. Easily blowing a steady 20-25 mph, and gusting up to 40 mph. The wind will do whatever it wants with the golf ball, especially if you don’t hit it solid. A tee time of 8:15 this morning, I knew it was going to be windy from the forecasts, but I thought with an early time I might catch a little break. That was completely wrong. 6:15 came and it was time to rise and shine. A quick shower and I was on my way to the course. The trees were bending and shaking from the wind. I knew a long day was in store. The range at Lost Springs was facing ... read more

I figured i should test this out before i go. I'm all packed and far far too excited. One week until I'm free and off to wonderful things. Not much to say until I'm out of this boring old city, which I'm sure once i return, won't seem all that lame anymore. Coming home from India made me realize how clean and wonderful Canada is and how great it smells. ... read more
