Well, after a long 29 hours of flying we were greeted by the city that never sleeps by a 2 hour traffic jam. A trip that should have only taken 20 minutes from JFK to Queens. Jeva & Jamaal's cousin Jason, was volunteered to put us up for our stay in New York. Wasn't long before we met some of the locals down @ the nearby 'beer garden'. A few minutes into the conversation & I was asked what Aussies thought if Americans. I answered and said that most of the Americans I come across @ work are whingers. What? I'm not going to lie! The reaction I got wasn't all that positive. This guy then proceeded to tell me that he had been at a party with Paris Hilton once. Who cares! Our first couple ... read more

June 22, 2007. Slept in till 7:30 am. Wow, that was nice. Even the dogs cooperated! . We started the Aster Peak trail before 9:00 am. The trail is only 1.9 miles with a 670 ft. vertical climb, but all the climb was in the last .7 of a mile so it did get our hearts pumping! The Aster Falls were pretty and the view of the Two Medicine Lake from Paradise Point was worth the walk. In the afternoon we decided to forego another hike and moved on the St. Mary’s area of Glacier. We’re stayed in the Rising Sun campground. It wasn’t very crowded for a weekend. This campground isn’t quite as scenic as the other. Met a couple from upstate New York who are also headed to Alaska. Spent the afternoon catching ... read more

Vancouver island.

Well after a short ride from Anaheim I arrived at the beautiful Marriot LA Downtown. Great location, as I am right in the heart of the downtown city, yet close enough to everything. The hotel definately makes you feel like you are in LA - there is a 5 lane freeway right behind the hotel and the traffic seems to be going ALL day long - Only in LA. The hotel itself is nice, and my room is almost as nice as my room in Vegas, but definately no complaints from here as my bed is super comfy!! Yesterday I went for a wander through Downtown, and must have had my shopping detector on, cos despite the fact that I had no idea where I was going, I managed to end up in Macy's - ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Sarasota June 21st 2007

OK, I had to cut things short last time, but I realized I left out my most memorable day in Sarasota, which was unfortunately the last one...for now!! I decided to get creative and do what I like to call a beach survey. Basically, I made it my mission to go to every single beach in Sarasota. OK, my original goal was to hit every beach in Sarasota county, but I need to come back again to go to Casey Key, Nokomis Beach, Venice Beach, Casperson Beach, and Manasota Beach. I decided to start from the top. First stop was Longboat Beach. The best word to describe this spot: serene. It was practically empty (which I couldn't understand, since it's breathtakingly beautiful), but this is a welcome sight. It was quiet, peaceful and sunny with ... read more

North America » United States » New Mexico » Santa Fe June 21st 2007

Santa Fe is known as “The City Different” and when your eyes fall upon the adobe houses and Spanish courtyards that makeup the city, it’s easy to understand why. Brian and I were pleased to find that our Bed & Breakfast had us staying in a truly Santa Fe style house; an adobe building with chili peppers hanging on the front door for decoration, a kiva fireplace in the room, and southwestern accents throughout the room. After getting settled in we decided to find the main Plaza and get a bite to eat. The Plaza is a square in the center of Santa Fe closed down to cars and lined with southwestern shops, restaurants, and street vendors (mostly Native Americans selling jewelry). While it’s a nice area, (certainly worth visiting) it seems a bit like ... read more

It's a beautiful morning here in Half Moon Bay! We slept in (bliss!), then topped off the water tanks, checked the propane and went to have breakfast ashore. We stopped by to see Leland working on Irene and met a pal of his who used to work with Carl Sagan. He's setting off to sail to the North Pole as soon as the ice breaks up. The characters here are so colorful they make your eyes hurt. I've found this sweet little cafe to send out some blogs, and Harry and I will leave the dock in about an hour. Peter has hooked into a rental car and will travel back to Eugene to jump back into the real life. Bon Voyage and be safe, Peter! I spoke on the phone with Shayla yesterday and ... read more

North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » LAX June 21st 2007

And it begins... I'm sitting here at LAX, wearing my Beatles shirt (purposely worn so I will feel like royalty when I get off in London), waiting for my flight , typing away at my ThinkPad which is hooked up to my Sprint phone which acts as a modem and listening to my mp3 player (I kinda miss the ipod nano’s sound quality, but I still can’t justify paying $200 for that, so I recently returned it). I just got a call from John (John Lee, one of my best friends who is also going to Europe but not through the same program) and he let me know that we probably won’t be able to meet up at the terminal before we fly out to London because my plane is about to board and he’s still ... read more
