Hello all and apologies for the delay on what’s to be my final destination…New York! Sitting in Dublin airport having said my goodbyes to Susan felt strange. For this entire trip we had been joined at the hip. I don’t know how people travel the world alone, that would scare the bejesus out of me! But I could definitely handle my final flight to New York alone, being that I had done that trip what feels like a million times! I had lived in the city for almost 4 years having moved there shortly after 9/11 and after making the move back to Belfast (please tell me what was I thinking??? ok, yes, the visa was up!) this was my first time back to NYC to visit old friends and catch up with some of my ... read more

is oollllldddd and extremely loud as EVERYTHING seems to be under construction. I toured the Governor-General's residence at the Citadel, the old fort that protects the entrance to the rest of the river. Learned a lot about Canada's government from a very helpful guide, I was the only one on the tour. Anyway I have some more pics up, just a few from camping, Montreal and Quebec. http://picasaweb.google.com/wired1000/IMLeavingMontreal... read more

Currently my ship is off the coast of Costa Rica. We left Mexico on Sunday night, and are now on our way to Panama. My last 2 days in Acapulco were not as busy as my first two, but they were still amazing. On Saturday a group of friends and I headed downtown to the bungee tower. I jumped as well as two others. The tower is awesome for two reasons. First it is right on the beach; the view is gorgeous. Second, it is over a pool, so when you jump you actually can get dunked. It was so much fun! Don’t worry Mom, Dad, I got the DVD of it! After the bungee jumping we decided to walk back to the ship via beach. And it would have been a lovely walk except ... read more

My first day exploring Door County has been enjoyable. The official visitor guide (which is also available online at www.doorcounty.com) says inside the front cover - One of the Top Ten Vacation Destinations in North America according to Money Magazine. One of the speakers at Grandfather Mountain earlier this month had Door County on his list of must see travel spots in North America as well. So I had extremely high expectations as I set out this morning. Early on I was very under whelmed. I guess with all I heard about this area, I expected to see a magnificent farm, water, beautiful shoreline, unique building or lighthouse around every turn and not knowing what to photograph as everything was going to be spectacular. I spent the day in the northern half of the county ... read more

Rene and I have had a fantastic time in Canada but it was time for us to go back home. We really didn't want to leave the comfort and hospitality of my kind relatives. It was great to have reunited, to have met my cousins, and to have spent quality time them. Unlike the experience we had with Canadian customs when we entered their country, the U.S. border was a much different experience. When we entered Canada, a couple of questions were asked and off we crossed(no standing in line, 2 minutes, tops), entering the U.S. however, long pedestrian line, questions, and a little search through our panniers. I guess that's a good thing, or is it? Anyway, 'just an observation... We left Surrey at about 8:30 AM, when we decided it was time to ... read more

Arrived 2 and a half hours late! Plane was delayed in Houston, TX then no pilot, then bad weather, then too much weight on the plane... Finally got to see Elan, take a look at him, being a civilian agrees with him! Went around OKC picking up stuff for the roadtrip then to Pho Noodles for dinner. Got an intro to Lucy, more on her later. Weather is hot and sunny even though Elan said I would be in rainy weather and we want to leave by Thursday to get out of the bad weather. Of course off in the distance one can see ominous dark clouds. Went to the weigh station to weigh the empty car and tomorrow back again to weigh it full, something for his records. Back to his apartment, some sprinkling and ... read more

We were back on the road and put in a good day's drive through Northern Arizona (this may qualify as the most beautiful state). I had to move to back of the RV and take pretty deep breaths as Mark drove through what he called steep and unrelating mountainous desert roads. Page Arizona (near Lake Powell) is a town that seems to pop up out of nowhere. It's the last Arizona stop before Utah and about 2 hours from our next destination -- Bryce Canyon. We stopped for a great Mexican Lupper (as Elliot named our occassional combination of lunch and dinner) here and to give Millie a break. Just when we were feeling hopeful that the problems were behind us, Millie had some trouble which might be the alternator. She's running but cutting out so ... read more

So I thought I should post a few pics of our soon to be gone home. Or rather, since the house is fairly normal and not that exciting, some pictures of our vacation last month with my husbands family. I am still desperately trying to talk my husband into traveling all the way to the Pacific coast this trip, so that it will be a true "Coast to Coast" vacation. The end of May was both me and my husbands birthday, his 30th and my 25th. His parents and his younger brother and brother's girlfriend all came out and visited for a week of sun, fun, ocean and monuments. To cap off the weekend and to celebrate the start of a new decade, I treated the family (and a few friends) to a private box ... read more

I'm going to try to get my act together now while I still have reliable access to computers, internet and I guess electricity should be thrown in there. Twenty days and I'll be headed to Philadelphia for "staging" which is a two day training prior to departure and then on the 19th we fly out. Our route is from Philly to JFK to Frankfurt, Germany to Johannesburg, South Africa arriving on the 21st. I figure a blog will be the best way to keep you all informed of what I'm up to and hopefully keep some pictures posted. For anyone I haven't talked to recently I will write a bit about my job description, although it's still vague at this point. I am a Capacity Builder and the program is called "NGO Capacity Building/HIV-AIDS Integration". When ... read more

I've arrived! I'm in CT at Uncle Ted's (UT), which is my home base when I come back "home." Yesterday's direct flight from LAX to JFK was great, and we left/arrived on time. For all you local folks, we'll be in touch! As is typical (for those who know me), I met some cool people en route to NY yesterday - which has to be one of my favorite things to do - meet people and hear their stories. Yesterday I met Mark, a guy traveling with his guitar. We met at the airport, eating lunch, waiting for our flights. He was heading back East to meet up with his girlfriend, who sings (semi-professionally?), and he's pretty new at playing the guitar, and loves it! They were apparently going to be playing a couple gigs this ... read more
